A successful nation can be defined as having a cohesive society, citizens who are happy, enjoys prosperity and progress and is also capable of defending her own sovereignty. Through these criteria, Singapore is successful as a nation for the past fifty years. In Singapore, prosperity and progress was displayed through sustained economic growth and the presence of a strong military force, which has not only equipped the country with the ability to defend herself but also helped to boost investor confidence. Other than this two factors, communal living environment setup in public housing has also play a role in the success of building a Singapore nation.

Public housing is setup at the interest of nation to incorporate the population and also the citizens in avoiding class and ethnic group segregation and conflicts. By introducing various public housing provisions to ensure that residents across different income classes can afford a shelter over their roof and zero ethnic enclaves in public housing estates. Different type of public flats were built to suit the different income classes and lifestyle of the residents. Ethnic integration policy was introduced to mix ethnic groups in housing estates.
