Miranda Salazar The soccer player was getting closer as my palms grew sweaty and the ball raced toward me at speeds that seemed unreal. Being a goalie was not something I was fond of, but I embraced it once my coach pleaded for me to play in this one game. The girl on the opposing team swung her leg back and the black and white blob shot at me like a missile. My mind did not process what was going on until my head flew back from a hard impact. After having to be walked off of the field with a bruised ego and a stinging face, soccer just was not my cup of tea anymore.
Imagine your best friends making the school soccer team and you getting cut, because your “not ready” or there is “no room”. Trust me been there done that, the most regretted thing about school sports for many are tryouts. Tryouts are the worst thing about sports, they bring nothing but more stress to your plate. It is understandable that everyone can not make the team but it is a terrible thing to cut children by telling them they did not have enough room on the team or are not ready to be on it. Students should not have to tryout for school sports.

If athletes take steroids then your team and yourself can be eliminated from the event if caught taking steroids because it gives unfairness to other players and teams. Many teams and players have bein eliminated from special sports events such as Russia, Usa and Many more teams have been banned from the olympics, also many players like a canadian runner named johnsen ran 100m in 9.79 seconds but later striped from his gold medal after testing positive after and anabolic test. Another scenario is when one russian swimmer was tested positive after an anabolic test and his whole team of 100 swimmers were also banned from the summer olympics of 2016. One player can affect a whole team because that is punishments for taking steroids to improve your game. It says “there’s many ways he could have got rabies; at that time period they were many people getting it from bats”. He could have gotten rabies anywhere, maybe even on the way to Baltimore. Also, Dr. Benitez says “Poe refused alcohol in the hospital when they tried to give it to him and could only drink water with difficulty”. If Poe was drunk, he would have taken the drink, and also, rabies victims are afraid of water. Dr. Jerome also says “the writer was so sensitive to alcohol that a glass of wine would make him ill”.
If I was to back down and not go on this water slide I knew that I would regret not going when we left for home. The slide was called ¨Tornado¨ and that didn't sound very pleasing to me. All my friends had already been down it several times and I was the only one left to
On the other hand, when I got off the ground, I could taste the turf and grass all in my mouth, and I must say, that was disgusting. I could also hear all the parents and the refs gasping because I was just almost knocked out. Everyone was so worried about me going back into the game, but I wanted insisteaded. Needless to say, the doctors found nothing wrong and they told me I had the choice to quit soccer or keep playing and become affected by the concussion in 10 years, so, I made the hardest decision I have ever made; I quit the game I fell in love with at just 5 years old.
Often students do not know that the symptoms of meningitis because it seems like nothing more than the flu. The flu is an extremely contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza (7). Because of this, they just ignore the signs, and they do not seek for the treatment (8). For example, one student will have a fever, headaches, and muscle pain and will do nothing about it because he thinks that it is just the flu. Also ignoring the vaccinations that the students should take is a result of less awareness (7)(9).
Due to the lack of proper concussion screening equipment it is hard to truly know if someone has a concussion. My friend Tyler had a near death experience due to being misdiagnosed with not having a concussion. The doctors gave him a CT Scan and a MRI and they showed that he did not have a concussion. Tyler would almost die because of this wrong diagnosis. According to The Eisen Law Firm, if a player does not pass out after suffering from a major blow, most coaches and medical staff will not diagnose that athlete with a concussion (Firm).
In recent years concern has been raised for the staggering concussion rate in soccer, particularly women’s soccer. Although most attention has been put on football, people should be just as concerned about soccer. Doctors are finding that soccer is the second leading cause of concussions. Following right behind the contact sport football. Although soccer is not normally perceived as a contact sport it is producing a high number of injuries and the most concerning injury taking place is concussions.
Head injuries and concussions are what scientist believe have caused these brain diseases in young athletes. These injuries are sustained by serious blows to the head to the point when the brain slams back and forth against the inner head. Traumatic brain injuries are long term effects that are sustained through various blows to the head which scar the brain itself. Unlike TBIs, concussions can be healed in due time as long as the person who has experienced the concussions has followed the necessary procedures and has received enough rest to further help the brain heal. Some head injuries although can lead to these brain diseases.
In many of today's most popular sports, head injuries are quite common and are starting to occur more frequently in children. The documentary Head Games directed by Steve James follows former football player and ex-wrestler, Chris Nowinski, on his mission to uncover the truth about the consequences of playing sports related to concussions. A concussion is a brain injury that you cannot see and where the brain moves around in the skull. More than 3.8 million concussions occur a year due to a sport. The documentary raises the question of whether protective head-gear should be worn in all contact sports. I believe a head is more likely to sustain more damage to the brain without a helmet than a head with a helmet.
