According to the article entitled, Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction (National Institute on Drug Abuse. 2012), addiction is actually a brain disease that related for the compulsive drug’s desire and abuse, regardless of the harmful impacts to the addicted individual and his or her surrounding. Youths who addicted to drug abuse always long for the drug and hence take the drug frequently in a big dose, even if they know that it can cause terrible impacts for individual and for society. Drug addiction always begin with drugs abuse. In fact, there are many reasons that can cause a teenager to involve himself in the drug abuse. For example, according to the Roxanne Dryden-Edward and MD (2016), most of the drug abuse is caused by its ability to “get high”. Through drug abuse, the teens can always experience the peak of excitement, which free them from their distressed and worries. According to Madam Marina Muneera Abdul Muttalib (2008), the lecturer from Faculty of Leadership and Management (FKP), Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM), drugs usage can also caused by peer pressure They indulge themselves with drug with their friends, and then addict to it after a large doses is used. During the progressive era our country faced many problems. The rise of substantial businesses caused industrial problems. Women suffrage, alcohol, child labor, and safety issues caused social problems. The necessitation of citizens in government decisions also caused political problems. Monetary and Societal Obstacles Societal simply comes from the word society and it means relating to society. Monetary refers to money. In our society monetary and societal obstacles can intertwine. These obstacles can even build on each other. Consequently, this can cause bigger problems if they are not handled correctly.
My example of a singular explanation to a social problem is the accident rate while driving sky rocketed because of driving while intoxicated. Driving while intoxicated has cause many accidents but it is not the only reason that caused the collision rate to increase. Texting while driving is another reason the collision rate increased. Recently, it is said there are 10,550 alcohol related crashes while there were about 1.6 billion crashes caused by cell phones. Intoxication and texting while driving are the main reason collisions happen but there are many more, for example, running a stop light causes about 40 percent of the car collisions.
According to a study done at the University of Washington, “ For the developing young adult, drug and alcohol abuse undermines motivation, interferes with cognitive processes, contributes to debilitating mood disorders, and increases risk of accidental injury or death” (Hawkins). When teens abuse drugs, they can damage their brains. This can affect everything from emotions, to memory. The abuse of drugs as a teen can also lead to accidental death, particularly involving overdoses and car accidents. Also, according to Addiction Center, an information center about drug use, abuse, and addiction, “Substance abuse affects teen brain development by: interfering with neurotransmitters and damaging connections within the brain, reducing the ability to experience pleasure, creating problems with memory, causing missed opportunities during a period of heightened learning potential, ingraining expectations of unhealthy habits into brain circuitry, [and] inhibiting development of perceptual abilities” (Health).
Social Norms Society is full of social norms that people tend to obey, especially while in the public, judgemental eye. Dressing appropriately, using an “indoor voice” while indoors, and keeping out of other’s personal space are just some of the several norms that people in the United States nonconsciously follow. If someone were to violate these unspoken rules of society, there is usually backlash or disapproval to the violated norm. While in public, there is usually music that is being played. Take a mall for example.
Substance abuse, also known as Drug abuse, is very prevalent in many countries. A drug is any substance that modifies the body’s normal functioning. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines a drug as any substance or product that modifies the behavior of a person for the benefit of the recipient. Substance abuse, on the other hand, is the drug use other than for the intended purpose in a manner that damages the physical functioning of the body. Substance abuse is a rampant problem in the United States.
In defining social vulnerability, the terms are different than vulnerability being applied to built systems but instead refers to potential harm to people. This means certain types of people or groups of people, whose ability to manage and recover is lessor than other portions of the population. Core elements for assessing social vulnerability must first be divided into resources and characteristics influenced by socioeconomic status, environmental and types of infrastructure within the community. Using these categories social vulnerability can be linked to levels of risk and resiliency among populations. Furthermore, measures for social inadequacies are shaped by social status, ethnicity, and gender which happened to be the makeup of many of the communities effected by Hurricane Katrina.
Perspective is a chosen approach that can be used to study any subject in the field of sociology. These perspectives highlight the diverse methods an individual selects to analyze a theme and how they perceive the society in general. Three sociological perspectives include functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspectives (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016, p. 2). Throughout this paper, I examine how we analyze the role of television from the functional, conflict, and interactionist approaches. Functionalist perspective on a macro-sociological level places far more emphasis on “the collective life or communal existence than on the individual” (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016).
A revolution is when there is a complete overturning of current social, economical, or political conventions, including a change in regime or government due to tensions in the society. The author states two claims about revolutions, both of which are substantiated by the article and historical evidence. I support the author’s claim that tensions in a society lead to changes in the political systems. Tension is defined as a situation in which people feel aggressive or unfriendly towards each other, resulting in potential dispute or violence. These tensions are caused by the loss of flexibility in a society, when social structures and behavior patterns have become so rigid that the society can no longer adapt to changing conditions, resulting
How do you define the harshness of society? Social Justice and Poverty is a hard concept to analyze when one does not have a clear understanding of the social justice structure and why most people living in poverty remain poor. Looking beyond the aspects of what causes everyday circumstances and situations, society must become more well-rounded to people living in poverty are lacking their everyday hierarchical needs. In a world with people who are very rich and people who are very poor, society tends to put their focus on making the rich richer. Poverty has swept over many cities, states and countries with low unemployment rates, child hunger, economic violence, homelessness, and major social class issues.
2.3 Sociological perspective: Macionis (), analyzed that sociology is efficient study of human society. Society refers to public who live in a defined region and share a way of existence. Sociology’s analysis of society is a special point of view called a sociological perspective. To define the sociological perspective there is an additional way to define that is considering the general in the particular. It tells that that sociologist look for common pattern in particular human’s behavior.

Social Problems in Societies Social problems are issues which are considered to affect majority if not all members of a society either directly or indirectly. Whenever people come to live together in a social setting, conflict arises from their differences in opinions regarding political issues, religion, ethnic issues, cultural practices and other health and hygiene issues. In such a situation, we can say a society inevitably develops social problems. The various social issues present today vary from society to society, and as such, we cannot say that all societies face similar social issues.
