Society today is very controversial and well talked about. It is constantly changing with technology and different viewpoints being recognized. Our current society, even with how in touch we are with technology it is outdated and seemingly cruel. Society definitely can change for the better and for the progressing minds of the future. For one the way we are told that we should live life is toxic. Second, the way people are told to view themselves is confusing and harsh. Last, the judgement people face for no reason is not okay. Even though some people are just fine with the society we have, they are wrong.Although some may disagree, society needs to change as soon as possible. First, the way we are told to live is very toxic. We are told …show more content…
It is obvious that different people are given different types of opportunities. Such as someone born into a rich family will have an easier time going through life than a person born in a poor family. Also people of different genders also have different opportunities in life too. What society tells us is right and wrong is often because of prejudice. For example saying a woman can’t do a “man’s” job is wrong. Well, who told us a certain job was made for man or woman? Society makes up these kind of assumptions and we believe them. By believing them we are making it seem true when it isn’t and this needs to stop immediately. If this stops people will be more open to trying new things without the fear of ridicule. An article on reference.com talks about how prejudice can open and close many doors for different types of people. By changing the way we automatically judge people we can make life better and fair. Some do not agree with these ideas and think society should stay how it is. This is wrong in its entirety. With our developing world everything needs to change eventually. Saying society shouldn't change is like saying technology should stay in the stage it is right now. If nothing ever changed we would never have new ideas or inventions. This idea is foolish and should be immediately
Each man and woman born is expected to be as all others are. Gifts and talents are especially shunned. Equality has been taught that “it is not good to be different from our brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them” (21). To his societal disadvantage, Equality 7-2521 is gifted with a great intelligence and a burning curiosity to understand.
Society leans on stereotypes and acts accordingly upon them. It’s almost as if society relies solely on what they see on the surface to make their judgements. People are born innocent; their upbringing molds them into what they become the rest is left to personality traits they are born with. In Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, the creature was automatically born into a world of hatred.
Society makes people feel as if they are obligated to be what other people want them to be, and perform what society wants them to. Examples of this dates back to the Salem Witch Trials, where over 200 people were convicted of witchcraft and 20 people were executed. There are recent cases of this happening in our society too, such as the West Memphis three cases. The West Memphis
One of the biggest things the human race has created is society. How humans live, how they interact, what customs they follow, all of it becomes a part of society. But many negatives have arisen from society as well such as: hate crimes, racism, discrimination, and much more have all taken root in society. The roots run so deep that most modern day citizens are not even aware of their own preferences. One of the worse roots being stereotypes.
This has to do with the experiment, because all social norms are used as vessels to make people act and think the same, and if you break them you are looked down upon by
For a long time people have always thought that men and women have certain roles. They have to do these specific roles and if they don 't do what they are supposed to do they are frowned upon and people have a hard time accepting that. In all reality men and women have certain roles but there are roles that can be done by both. For example women can do jobs that are considered men jobs and vice versa.
Don’t Look Back Warren Farrell, an American author once said “Nobody really believes in equality anyway” and this rings true for several reasons. One such reason is, it is nearly impossible for equality, and happiness to coexist. For generations citizens of the United States have been striving to have total equality in their everyday lives. People want equal rights, equal pay, equal education opportunities. However, not many people want to do equal work, get equal consequences, or submit equally to government rules and regulations.
The trouble around diversity Johnson states within chapter one of his book that people differ from one another. The trouble is produced by a world organized in ways that encourage people to use difference to include or exclude, reward or punish, credit or discredit, elevate or oppress, value or devalue, leave alone or harass. Privilege exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything they've done or failed to do"(Johnson, 21). Privilege can also refer to unearned advantages.
We need to categorize these people into groups in order for our brains to not overload with information. Stereotyping is not bad, prejudice actions are. We need to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that everyone is
Kush Garg Matthew Soucy H-English/AP-World History September 26, 2015 Ishmael: Change is Impossible After reading the book Ishmael, my mind has been expanding on the main topic of the book which is why we can’t change society because whenever we try to advance change just adds onto the destruction we are causing to our world. While I was reading this book, I began to learn more about how we are destroying our world even more. When humans lived in a simple manner, believing that they lived in the “hands of the gods,” evolution was destined to happen because humans had to adapt to their environment. This evolution sparked the problems that would come later in history, like deforestation, social inequality and pollution.
Imagine this: you are living in a discriminatory world full of people who do not understand you, and choose to judge you by your differences instead of getting to know you. If you are even the slightest bit different. The slightest distance from ordinary, you are judged. You do not get to fight for them to know you, because as soon as they place stereotypes on you. They decide who you are supposed to be.
In all countries, religions, and cultures people are expected to live a certain way. For instance in puritan times people were expected to wear plain concealing clothing, and were supposed to live their lives by the bible. For example in the book “ The Scarlet Letter” Hester Prynne was shunned from society for committing adultery. In many ways people let society control who they are.
Every day people are judged and discriminated on the way they look, color of skin, what their wearing, and were they come from. It is upsetting how the world is today and I don’t think it will ever changed as there is always going to be that one person who is going to judge a person because of their culture,
One of the many problems in this world is that people are discriminated for their actions and differences, but we do not see what they have to offer. What we do not realize is how all of us are different in a way, and how we do not always have to have something in common. If we were in their shoes how would we feel? In a society, individuals must learn how to accept others and their differences in order to live in a happier community with fewer conflicts amongst one another. First of all, in order to make this a happier community to live in, our society first must stop judging others for being different than us because we have not been through what they have.
But now our society has evolved, we gained clarity and reasons. We are now able to acknowledge and accept people who are different whereas we use to enslave and discriminate people who were a little different. But still, it seems we have a long way to
