When designing an aircraft you can take parts or system ideas from other and kind of make something new. The same can be done about space aircraft, you can mix capsules and rockets, software, or hardware. Such as with the SpaceX Dragon capsule where it can swap out he two rockets called the Falcon one and Falcon nine launch. The space craft is used to transport cargo to the international space station as of late. It is designed to be the size of about the nose of the space shuttle orbiter, so it does not carry much in retrospect.
