Spina Bifida
Description
Spina bifida occulta is a congenital malformation in which there is incomplete closure of the spinal arch at one or more levels. It is a type of birth defect called a neural tube defect and occurs when the bones of the spine (vertebrae) don't form properly around part of the baby's spinal cord. Spina bifida can be mild or severe. The mild form is the most common. It usually doesn't cause problems or need treatment. A rare and more severe form is meningocele. In this form, fluid leaks out of the spine and pushes against the skin. In this case a bulge may be observed in the skin. In many cases, there are no other symptoms. The most rare and severe form is myelomeningocele. It is what most people mean when they say "spina bifida". In this condition, part of the spinal nerves push out of spinal canal, and the nerves are often damaged. You may see a bulge in the skin. In some babies, the skin is open and the nerves are exposed. Each year, about

It is however proposed to be caused by genetic or environmental causes. Women who have had one child with spina bifida are more likely to have another child with the disease. Women who are obese or who have diabetes are also more likely to have a child with spina bifida.
Symptoms
Most children with the mild form of spina bifida do not show any symptoms and also do not face any complications. Even the children with meningocele are at very low risk of developing complications. Children with the most severe form of spina bifida (myelomeningocele) often have spine and brain issues that cause serious problems. They may show symptoms of
• Little or no feeling in their legs, feet, or arms.
• Bladder or bowel problems, such as leaking urine or having a hard time passing stools.
• Fluid build-up in the brain (hydrocephalus). Even when it is treated, this may cause seizures, learning problems, or vision problems.
• A curve in their spine, such as

Of course, the condition will most likely involve a heart problem, which is discovered at birth, along with a webbed neck, chest deformities, many birth marks, also known as café-au-lait spots, and a short stature. The features of this syndrome are not fully known, considering the fact that there are numerous characteristics and no two infected individuals have the same exact features. Like in most other disease cases, there are lists of more minor symptoms that can occur in an individual. In infants and newborns, feeding problems are present, due to a poor sucking reflex. Behavioral problems and developmental delays can occur, which causes the individual to achieve milestones slower, such as sitting and walking.
It often occurs in children who have one or both parents who were also slow to develop. SYMPTOMS Children with CGD tend to be a bit short in early childhood, but they grow at a normal rate. They do not have the rapid growth spurt of adolescence when other children their age do. They continue to grow but at a slow rate. They also do not show signs of puberty until later.
DOI: 05/21/2015. Patient is a 52-year-old male control operator who sustained an injury to his low back after lifting 42-pound rolls. Patient is diagnosed with lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis, lumbar degenerative disc disease, lumbar foraminal stenosis, and lumbar radiculopathy. MRI of the lumbar spine dated 09/01/15 showed L5 to S1 pars defects with mild spondylolisthesis.
Most people avoid thinking of the idea of having one of their future children born with a genetic disorder. But this is not a realistic thought. A study made by the National Down Syndrome Society (2014) found out that about one in every seven hundred babies in the United States is born with Down syndrome, a chromosomal disorder caused by an error during the cell division. This results in an extra copy of the chromosome 21 which alters the brain and body development. People with Down syndrome are born with intellectual disability, some characteristic facial features and cognitive delays.
Christina Milian lost her new born nephew, a day after he was born, and shared this fateful news on her facebook page. Her nephew Richie Bear battled an uncommon birth defect, and fought till he could no longer make it. He was diagnosed with omphalocele during pregnancy, a condition where an infant 's intestine or other abdominal organs are formed outside the body.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a syndrome diagnosed primarily at birth, has treatments and is easily prevented. There are varying definitions of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome from many medical sites. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) as, “A highly variable group of birth defects including, mental retardation deficient growth, and malformation of the skull and and face that tend to occur in the offspring of women who consume large amounts of alcohol during pregnancy.” The Mayo Clinic’s definition is, “Fetal alcohol syndrome is a condition in a child that results from alcohol exposure during the mother’s pregnancy. Fetal alcohol syndrome causes brain damage and growth problems.

Most people have never heard the words “spina bifida” in their life, but after today you will know what it is. Spina bifida is a neurological birth defect, where the backbone and the membranes around the spinal cord do not completely close, and even protrude out. This disorder can have no effect on a person or it can alter an individual’s life forever. I will begin by giving you some background information on the disorder and then I will tell about my sibling, who has this disorder. Spina bifida in Latin is translated as ‘split spine’.

I observed a four year old girl that was tiny for her age. She worked on proprioceptive and vestibular input like the other children. One major difference is that her condition has not been diagnosed. The doctor suspect a chromosome issue, but her family has not gone for additional testing. Although she can recognize shapes, colors, and letters, she is still delayed.
This type is caused by poor posture or slouching. It does not involve severe abnormalities in the bone structure of the spine. This is the most common type of kyphosis and usually becomes noticeable during adolescence. Congenital kyphosis. This is when the spinal column fails to develop normally while in the womb.
They can have upward slant to the eyes, small ears, and a bulge tongue (Susan Skallerup).Low muscle tone is also component of children with DS, and babies in particular may seem especially "flabby." Sometimes this can and often does improve over time; most children with DS occasionally reach developmental milestones like sitting up, crawling, and walking. Their development is usually later than other kids (Kathryn L,
