This study is going to include extensive research on the rate of student dropouts from higher education, the reason for students’ dropout as well as the suitable development tool and programming languages used to develop the mobile application.
Dropouts rate results increases during end of each year and it can often leave students feeling helpless and lost. (Weiss, n.d.). The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (2014) found out that students who applied for university in the year 2005 – 2006 along with factors associated with the probability of leaving higher education during first year of study. In the end of year 2010 – 2011, 7.4% of the students quit their course, 9.2% are males. However, mature entrants are more likely to drop

(De Witte et al., 2013). According to Cooper and Chavira’s study, one of the student-related factors for higher education dropouts are academic achievements, commonly measured by conducting tests or exams or by other indicators such as school retention or enrolment in special educations, to discern the effects of student’s path of achievement or skills. (Cooper and Chavira, 2005). However, most scholars found out that academic achievements are predictive for early education leaving. (Rumberger, 2004a). In addition, several factors preventing students getting a higher education could also relate to student pregnancy or employment. Other predictors of leaving university or graduate are academic professional aspirations or expectations. (e.g., Rumberger, 1983), such as lack of engagement in psychological and cognitive subtypes. PhoneGap can help developers develop applications that can run on several mobile platforms such as iOS, Android, Windows and more, the apps that are developed for multiple platforms can be maintained and it abolishes the differences of interface and functions while displaying on different platforms. Besides that, PhoneGap includes strong and backend systems that can speed up development process and reduce developer’s effort, along with using common browser based skills that requires additional inputs. Hence, the business owners can improve workflow performance and get it developed smartly. It has an open source license that can compile free codes and modules. (Arnesson,
Rhetorical Analysis Draft Three “The Privileges of The Parents” is written by Margaret A. Miller, a Curry School of Education professor at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. This woman was a project director for the Pew-sponsored National Forum on college level learning from 2002-2004. This forum assessed the skills and knowledge of college educated students in five states by a way that allowed the test givers to make state-by-state comparisons. Miller believes that “[a] college education has benefits that ripple down through the generations” and this has enabled her to work and speak on topics such as: college level learning and how to evaluate it, change in higher education, the public responsibilities of higher education, campus
Financial status effects, higher education, dependence on others, and mental health.
Americans, when they think of Civil Rights probably think of the Civil Rights Movement. During the civil rights era African Americans fought to be treated as equals by fighting segregated schools, for their voting rights, and for their basic right that every American has today. To say that education is our civil rights movement of today is inaccurate. Antonio Alvarez’s narrative “Out Of My Hands” focuses on a financially struggling family, but proving that they can succeed. David L. Kirp’s article “The Secret to Fixing Bad Schools” reinforces the idea that even though a community might be poor, that doesn’t have to reflect the quality of education students receive.
For the most part, personal, financial, and health reasons dominated the discussion. Some of the macro sociological reasons mentioned by students included; course availability, employment and financial instabilities, and health. On the contrary, micro sociological reasons seemed more popular with students drawing conjectures ranging from; family issues, peer pressure, failing grades, to distractions. After analyzing the Simon Fraser University report, it appeared macro sociological reasons were the primary reasons for the withdrawal of university students.
Academic ability is the largest cause of concern and has been picked by 18.2% of all students surveyed, this indicates that almost a fifth of the students who took part in the survey are finding school difficult and feel as though their own ability level is preventing them from being able to accomplish goals both at school and in potential job opportunities (Mission Australia, 2015). This is indicative of the point of view that the current school learning environment does not meet the needs of a big group of students through not being supportive enough for individual student requirements or needs to the point where the students themselves see their own ability as a hurdle that they are concerned about
Initial academic skills are tied back with the home environment, where low literacy environments and chronic stress negatively affect a student’s academic skills. The school systems in low socioeconomic communities are often under resourced, negatively affecting students’ academic progress inadequate education and increased dropout rates affect children’s academic achievement, disseminating the low socioeconomic status of the community. Improving school systems and early intervention programs may help to reduce these
There are many leading factors on why people might not go to college. Some reasons may include: financial aspects of college, the tests you must take to get in, or just having no desire to go to college. Currently I am a high school senior and I have been given the option to go to college. I am trying to figuring out what I want to spend my life doing.
Post-secondary education is imperative, considering the fact that those who obtain some form of higher education are less likely to be unemployed or live in poverty. The social issue that plagues my community most is the low enrollment of students at post-secondary institutions. Having a higher education is one of the key components of a healthy, stable, and successful life. Nonetheless, students shy away from a post-secondary education for several reasons, including tuition costs, lack of encouragement to attend a college/university, difficulty level, and the chance to earn more money without attending college. Because of society’s lenient standards, higher education is becoming progressively irrelevant to students.
What some may oversee is that grades and scores can give insight to certain characteristics, such as work ethic. Those who work hard in school are generally the ones that receive good grades. Also, a student’s will to improve themselves is very important. For example, if there is a trend for one’s grades improving over the four years of high school, this is a sure sign of a promising future. One year or class shouldn’t determine someone’s acceptance into college.
Students that get advanced scores on tests are able to move ahead and have better opportunities in their schools, but students that don’t score well are left behind, sometimes barely moving from grade to grade. When making changes to the schooling system, Thomas Jefferson said “twenty of the best geniuses will be raked from the rubbish annually” (Congressional Research Service, 269). The president of the United States of America, when setting up a part of the education system, said that only some of the extra-intelligent students would be taken and given amazing opportunities. He himself said that they would be taken from the rubbish,
With enhancement in technology, the distraction of the media, and the lack of discipline of oneself has made students think of easier solutions to their problems. Instead of studying for long hours as our ancestors have done, we choose to satisfy ourselves with social entertainment and other fun activities then look for easy ways out when it comes to tests or final exams by taking drugs. On the other hand the fast lifestyle we have in today’s society also impacts our way of learning with limited number of hours to focus on school which are taken by work, family, and other personal issues. Students do not have much time to study the large quantity of materials that’s presented by difficult courses which causes frustration and impatience. The demand on need of different solutions is increasing and supply of that demand is pointed in the same
More often than the public likes to believe, “social promotion” has become a fairly large part of education, specifically early and high school education. Every year, many children throughout the nation are being moved on to the next grade level without passing the previous education level. Over all, “social promotion” is doing more harm than good for various reasons. One of the main arguments of “social promotion” is pride against ability. A large group of people believe that retention hurts children’s self-esteem and makes them more likely to drop out of high school.
To require attendance or not to require attendance. That is the question that every faculty member has to answer. Some choose to have lenient policies that allow multiple absences. Others follow a strict policy of dropping letter grades or percentages for every absence or tardy.
Growing up, for most people, going to college is not an option- its an expectation. In our society, going to college has become a fundamental part of our education, becoming an adult, and for most people just simply part of our lives. However, as people grow up and experience reality, the realization hits that college may not be as simple as once thought. As much as attending college is expected from the majority of young people, dropping out of college is not. Even with the idealization of the college experience, some students are forced to cut their education short due to a plethora of issues.
Carr (2000) reported dropout rates as high as 80% in online classes and suggested a rule of thumb that course completion rates are often 10 to 20% higher in traditional courses. (Ni, A. Y, n.d.) Thus, it is very challenging for the participant to actively seek for the help, learn and figure it out the material independently without any help from friends and others. Some of students may not have the skill to be the effective learners and after that triggers them have lack of motivation to learn independently. Especially with students who new to higher education, they tend to feel extremely depressed when faced with particular academic challenge and get easily to drop out.(Bejerano, A. R. 2008)
