This is due to the fact that there are a lot of technological devices that are now in many classrooms. Technology in classrooms can be helpful or it can be distracting. Technology can distract students and it gives them an opportunity to stray from their work. Technology can also lead to students earning lower grades and a decrease in good note taking. Finally, technology can be one of the leading causes in the loss of concentration. Laptops are a distraction to be students because they tend to surf the web while they’re on them. On the other hand, laptops can be very useful to students because they help provide tools for them. Laptops have a negative effect on students because they can distract themselves and their peers. Laptops are distracting to students because the students just happen to end up on their laptops doing something.
Many critics may argue and say that technology in education is dangerous. It can waste a students’ time by getting him or her sidetracked by distractions they find online. However when students avoid technology in education, they have to spend long hours, days, maybe even weeks searching for certain information in various different books. Students that really want to learn will force discipline upon themselves. Even if students didn’t use technology, anything could easily distract them when studying.
In the classroom, technology can encompass all kinds of tools from low-tech pencil, paper, and chalkboard, to the use of presentation software, or high-tech tablets, online collaboration and conferencing tools, and more. The newest technologies allow us to try things in physical and virtual classrooms that were not possible before. Today, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to teach without technology and how hard it is to learn without it. Technology plays a major part in our lives as students.
Students may become so engulfed in their devices that they “have never read one Mark Twain novel or Shakespeare play or Wordsworth poem, or a serious history of the United States; they are bad at science, useless at mathematics, and hopeless at writing” (Source E). If students start letting technology get a hold of their life then they will simply stop caring for learning because they can simply find the answer online. Why would one spend an hour learning a topic when they can just find the answer in under a minute? This could create a generation of know-nothings and end up impacting the economy as no one wants to hire such a person. With technology students will stop caring for the traditional subjects learned in school.
