How extensive is the influence of all forms of media on your and other teenagers’ values and beliefs about your relationships? In the past the media didn’t play a big role in the influencing of teenagers values and beliefs but now that there are so many different ways to easily excess all types of media it has had a great increase of influence on teenagers values and beliefs. The media has influenced people differently when it comes to romantic relationships depending on the things they are exposed to, some people have been exposed to the idea that if you want to be happy, like how some people say that women need a man in their life to survive but that isn’t true. The people who don’t have the same values about their image like those people will surround themselves with people like them, but the problem is that life is about being able to get along with people who aren’t exactly like you. These values also effect romantic relationships too, people would rather date people who have good image than someone who they get along with and makes them happy because teenagers care about their image too much, but some people care about it more than others so it effects some people’s choices more than other. People get these images from the TV series they watch and the reality series and all the celebrities they admire, these series show that the males should be the more dominant one and should be more in control and that the females should just support them and should just be there to make the male look better. This also influences males to treat females with less respect which is a
Because these ideas are incorrect, they can negatively affect a person’s life. The media also looks at how “young people’s self-confidence and self-esteem are not entirely developed yet”(Kiler, Rommerskirchen, and Brixius). The media looks at this because it makes it easier to exploit younger people and make them believe something. Exploiting a person is a negative thing to do because someone is unfairly and unjustly altering that person. To sum it up, the media can currently be used to manipulate and exploit people
And the studies show that lack of a male role model is an express
Women and men are photoshopped and people on social media post photos that portray their lives as anything less than perfect. This has caused men (and women) to assume that women look like the photoshopped models in their social media feed and they are disappointed when women in real life do not meet this impossible standard. Furthermore, people become envious when they see how fun or exciting other people’s “perfect” lives look on social media. They feel if they are not living a life full of parties, exciting adventures, and sex, then they are missing out on living the perfect life. These people feel like they are not worth anything because compared to everyone else’s perfect social media life, their life is not worth living.
When someone who commits a crime is determined to be mentally inadequate to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed, there are things that we do to charge them, but in a lesser way because of their mental capacity. Which begs the question, why are we allowing children to be sentenced to life, when their brains aren’t fully developed? When a child commits a crime we look over that, and stop seeing them as children. We shouldn’t sentence children to a life in prison when their brains are not only underdeveloped, but also missing a good portion of gray matter.
Latinos In The Media: The Stereotypes We Swallow Stereotypes, as defined by Merriam-Webster, are something conforming to a fixed or general pattern, especially a standardized mental image that represents a prejudiced opinion. Common examples include “the dumb blonde” or “the boring cat lady.” Mainstream media often portrays Latinos as “lazy,” “dishonest,” and “poor.” While I Love Lucy (1951-1957), Chico and the Man (1974-1978), and ¿Qué Pasa, USA? (1977-1980) were all popular television shows that presented Latino men in a positive light, they simultaneously propagated stereotypes.
With today’s American teens, the concept of social norms can be easily be pointed out. As social norms is an established manner of behavior maintained by a society, teens today can easily be argued to follow a manner of behavior, such as texting, taking selfies, and wearing the latest trends. The ,hipster, is unique to today’s American teens, an example of visual representation and a subculture. Even with our own personal experience and observations, most teens today represent the typical hipster. Skinny jeans, chunky glasses, and checkered or plain T-shirts, the American teen hipster is a recognizable figure in the modern U.S. As a subculture to today’s teens, the hipster movement brought about new styles of music and fashion.
Extended essay response Jonathan Scriva Hollywood films have influenced our values and beliefs of socio-cultural groups within a film. In the context of race and gender the films Cowboys and Aliens (2011) and the searchers (1956) both share similarities. These two successful films are 55 years apart the both convey the perspectives of race and gender through the reflection of American Indians in these films. The films The Searchers and Cowboys and Aliens show that Hollywood has changed the way we see the status of Indians. In the earlier film the Indians are represented as killers and mongrels as in this current day and age we have grown to accept them and appreciate their culture.
As adolescences enter adulthood, they enter a long transitional period, often known as “emerging adult”. This transitional period takes place over a range of 18 to 25 years old (Santrock, 2013). At this stage, emerging adults are still in exploration in the various aspect of life such as the career path they are interested in, defining their identities and a style of living they would want to adopt. Thus, adolescences who are in transition will be caught with many intense changes and will experience major life events that are all of great importance.
Do you think movies and TV shows influence teenagers? Nowadays, people spend time watching movies and TV shows more than setting all together having launch. People’s behavior including teenagers the most spend a lot of time on social media and this can change their behavior due to the things that they see. The media in general has a huge impact in our society on teenagers.
All teenagers want full privacy, and the right to be treated like full grown adults. Parents face a really hard time to understand their kids, they feel like their kids are drifting away from them but they don't know what to do, teenagers want privacy, but is it right to give them what they want? And if not, when is the right age that a person obtains the rights of an adult? parents should know when do kids start developing the ability of conceptual thought, that they should know to what level hey should give their kids privacy, that they should not limit their kids and do things instead of them, That the relationship between them and their kids might change and that it's totally normal, that they should trust their kids and give them
The two important values that I have learnt are the independence and the respect. I learnt these two values since my childhood. One of the values is the independence. Independence means that you can support yourself without owning or depending on yourself concerned with livelihood or studying. You can make decision of your life without being controlled by the others.
This is because the content of mass media is very powerful and it has become a agent of socialization which can shape people’s behavior or even influence the ways of how people think. There are many agents of socialization that can influence an individual lifestyle and one of the agent is mass media, which means that mass media can affect an individual self-concept, attitudes, or other orientations toward life especially the adolescents. The fact that there was a time when the internet, television and cell phones were considered a necessity but now the mass media seems to be more of a commodity to teenagers, because we can see that most of the adolescents tend to spend more time on the electronic devices rather than going for outdoor activities. Based on the researched, we found out that every people in the society
I believe that every family has their own roots, essence, uniqueness, beliefs and thoughts, some families have both parents, some just the mother, just the father, two mothers or two fathers, they might have an only child or two, or maybe 5 or even 10, therefore, those children start learning all these things from their family and surroundings, they ask questions, they imitate each other’s actions and are constantly learning and trying to catch as much information and experiences as possible. Children are growing fast, their parents are their role models, they learn mostly from them; parents have the tremendous job of forming good citizens that provide to society, healthy and happy beings that keep growing as humans in every stage of their
The media has long played a role in influencing how people construct and perceive the world. Media has influenced how people construct their thoughts, most often their perception towards someone. Youth in particular, have been presented in a variety of ways in the media. Although teenagers are portrayed differently as an individual, based upon characteristics and personality, the media is constructed to sell certain ideologies of youth or the youth culture in general to the audiences and then to the society. The media promotes both, diversity and conformity when representing the youth culture in the media but in my opinion, conformity reigns superiority.
Gender and Media In today’s world, the media consists of so many representations and ideas about men and women that though it can be argued that there is no straight-forward effect, it has been accepted that it does in some way affect our sense of identity. The number of hours of television that a person is exposed to in his lifetime does support the argument that a human inadvertently at times uses television as a reference point. For example, fictional romances in television or in the movie shows how one should behaves in a romantic or in a friendly relationship while magazines for women and men churn out advices on all aspects of one’s life from how to manage your finances, how to discipline your kids, how to groom oneself and what the latest fashions are.
