Sometimes the distaste and hate will lead people have the most powerful passion to gain a successful life. The short story "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" by Katherine Anne Porter, depicts the last thoughts, feelings, and memories of an elderly woman Granny Weatherall about how she is jilts in her whole life. However, Granny didn't let this stand in her way of having a successful life because it doesn’t mean that she needed to have everything she desire in life. Even though she never get rid of the jilts, her life was filled with joy and love with her family and career, because those success is what she earn after sustained effort instead of just getting what handed to her life. When Granny realized that she was going to die, it came as a total surprise to her, when she said " So Dear Lord this is my death bed and I wasn't even thinking about it.”(219) people might be wondering what this has to do with her successful life. Well, this shows success because Granny was so happy with her life that she didn't want to die, especially when saying "There is nothing more cruel than this, I'll never forget it.” (220) If Granny hadn't led a successful life she would be miserable instead of seeking to live on. She would have just wanted to die and wouldn't have cared what happened. She just never wanna stop her adventure of success, she is doing well and she could be able carry on her achievement. The more time she lives will help her gain more price in life. The death only means the closer of battle for her, as a woman has a fire personality would never easily
