During the childhood stage of life, a strong relationship with parents is very important. Parents help guide us through life and are one our biggest role models, they teach us communication skills, moral development and the basic skills needed to make a name for ourselves in the world. In the book, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, father and son relationships play a very important role in the plot and the outcome of the character’s lives. The Kite Runner focuses on Amir and his servant Hassan. They are very close and only difference between their social class. Baba is Amir’s father but never seems to show Amir the same level of love he shows Hassan. After a mistake made by Amir in the winter of 1975, Amir finds himself running from his problems until he learns something about his family Baba never told him. Biff and Amir both show deep admiration to their fathers’. They view their father as an inspiration and aspire to just like they are. After coming face to face with their fathers’ lies, the pair becomes damaged and are de-railed with where they go in life. In the end, Amir proves to be truly like Baba but Biff rejects Willy and intends to move on with his life the way he wants to do it. The true colours of their fathers’ are the stepping stone both men needed in order to find who they would like to be as people and how they want others in the world to view them. There is a sense of accomplishments and closure for both men. Overall, if one lives their entire life working their hardest to please others, they are in the end not pleasing themselves.
