8.1 Introduction
In today’s world, the main purpose of computers is information gathering, processing or analysing data. This arises a need to connect them with each other in order to share information, data, videos etc. In the present day situation there is a need to transmitted at a very fast pace and at a greater distance. To achieve this various kinds of communication medias are developed. This chapter defines the mechanical and electrical interfaces of network and the three kinds of transmission media: Guided (copper wire and fibre optics), wireless and satellite. We will also discuss the key transmission technologies that are used in modern computer networks.
8.2 Physical communication media
Communication media can be defined as material or techniques capable of carrying one or more signals through which data is transferred from one place to another. Network devices are connected to each other via actual physical environment on which data travels as it moves from one location to another. A media can referred to as physical media because the media is generally a physical object that can be touched and felt, and has physical properties such as weight and color. However with advancement of technologies, signals can be transferred over the

Guided transmission media
• The purpose of physical transmission media is to transport a raw bit stream from one machine to another. Various types of physical media can be used for the actual data transmission. Guided media are the physical links through which signals are confined to narrow path and transmitted from one place to another. Guided media are generally made up of an internal conductor (Copper or Glass) covered by a outer insulating material. Though various types of common bounded media are used of the data transmission, most common types are given below
o Magnetic media o Twisted Pairs Cable o Coaxial Cable o Fiber Optics
Inner layer: made from PVC, collect the phases of the cable and make the cable circular and protect the cable from the armouring 8. Armouring: Steel wire is used to wrap around the cable to protect the cable from the stresses and mechanical effect 9. Outer cover: PVC layer used to protect the cable from the external effects of the soil and the land and prevent the moisture and water from reaching the inner components of the cable Fig 32 medium voltage three phase cable isolated by XLPE Components of medium voltage single core XLPE cable: as shown in Fig 33 1.
Measure the capacitance of the open-ended coaxial cable 3. Determine Ra and Rb to meet the amplitude and time constant specifications. 4. Measure the Gain and time constant (Tau), and compare the the measured data with the calculated data, which based on experiments. Instructions: 1.
RTP is generally obtained extensively through communication and entertainment systems. It requires streaming media, including telephony, video teleconferencing applications online TV services and web-based features push-to-talk. RTP was developed from transport working group audio-video work www engineering work (IETF) and primary composite with RFC 1996. As 1889, replaced from RFC 3550 in 2003. Most text through its memorandum is generally identical to power RFC 1889 where it becomes obsolete.
In Ethernet data is send in form of packages, to control
To get started the LAN would be the main configuration for connecting the computers on each floor with star typology. Star topology will connect all nodes individually to a central connection point also known as the switch. A pro with this configuration if a cable fails only one node will be brought down and the rest will continue running. In addition, we can use twisted pair for the wire used to simply to cancel out electromagnetic interface from external sources since there will be multiple computers next to each other. The copper wire will lead to a switch connecting the devices together on the same network.
• ICMP; is one of the main rules of the internet protocol suite. It is used by system devices, like router, to send error messages showing, for example, that a demanded service is not offered or that a crowd or router could not be touched. • DHCP; Dynamic host configuration protocol is a customer server rules that repeatedly delivers an internet rules (IP) address and other linked arrangement information such as the subnet mask and avoidance entry. • Bluetooth; Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology that lets people to usefully connect their plans with other policies “and “the character of the technology is developing to not only allow devices to talk with one another, but actually allow the all-in-one communication between devices, native requests and the cloud.” •
For this particular task, I will be explaining what key components are necessary for client workstations to connect to a network and how to access network resources. I will be explaining the key features and functions of each of these components in relative detail. Network Devices: These are mechanisms used to connect computers and other electronic devices together so they can exchange and share files or special resources like printers or fax machines used in big organisations. LAN is the main type of network device used by the community.
This component is when you transmit any file from one computer to another computer, this is usually a much larger file. Most of the webs users would explain this simply as sending it to another computer that is set up to receive it or to send it up onto the internet where several people will be able to access it from their own computers. For example, YouTubers upload their videos on to the YouTube
The data is stored in the format of rows and columns in a grid. Letters- Business letters are used to communicate with people outside of the office. A business letter is usually formatted in the style of company address, recipient address, content of letter and signature of sender. Explain the use of different types of information communication technology
1. Define the following terms: GIS; A geographic information system is system made to capture, store, manipulate, analyse, manage, and present spatial or geographical data. FOSS; Free or Open Source Software. FOSS programs have licenses that allow users to freely run the program for any purpose, modify the program as they want, and also to freely distribute copies of either the original version or their own modified version. ILWIS; Integrated Land and Water Information System is a GIS / Remote sensing software for both vector and raster processing.
Media serves as communication channels through which news, entertainment or messages can be dispersed. Therefore, media serves as a good transport for prejudice and discrimination, because it is by media that the two concepts became popular. In this assignment will be critically discussing the following: Firstly, definitions of concepts like media, prejudice and discrimination. Secondly, incidents that happened over the years, that went viral over the media concerning the two concepts. Lastly, ways to reduce prejudice and discrimination.
The two key topics in class in the last weeks, for me. Two of the most relevant topics developed in the last weeks were: non-verbal communication and the barriers to communication. Everytime we communicate with another person or group of people, we have to take into account some factors other than what we are actually saying that can affect how the message is going to be received: body language, tone, intonation, facial expressions, and others; this is what we understand for non-verbal communication. As we saw in class “55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.”
In society today, communication classes are highly over looked because of our new developing technology. People don’t realize how much a communication class could benefit them. We have lost sight of verbal communication skills. This class has taught me to put my phone down and communicate with others. It has opened my eyes to the real world without technology.
The world we live in today is predominately changing with the advancement of digital communication in the daily aspects of our life. The rapid growth and evolution of digital communication, has resulted in it now becoming the backbone of the way we interact with other people. Beginning from simple 160-character SMS messages to text’s influence on the internet including Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and Instagram and then introduced on our mobile phones with BBM and whatsapp; digital communication has become a part of our spoken discourse. Digital communication in every aspect has impacted our lives as it helps jobs and businesses communicate a lot faster through e-mail, multimedia and texting.

It is a telecommunication medium that is used for transmitting and receiving moving images and sound. Televisions can transmit images that are monochrome, in color, or in three dimensions. Whether good or bad, television has found its way into the lives of people all over the world and it 's an important part of life for many.
