It is very beneficial for students to take more than the two required years of a foreign language in high school. Would you believe me if I said that if you simply take more classes of foreign language in high school that you will obtain later life health benefits? Well, you do and that is only one of the benefits I will be discussing. The benefits of taking more than two years of foreign language are that it affects your cognitive processes in multiple ways, it can easily and greatly affect your future hourly wage and future job, and it has benefits on your health later in life.
Research has been universal in saying that your cognitive skills are affected for the better if you have taken more than two years of a foreign language in high school; this has been tested using the Stroop Task. In this task you are given the name of a color such as “red”, but the font the name is in is a different color such as you receiving the word “green” but the color of the font is actually blue and then you are tasked with reading out the color of the font and ignoring the name of the word. Many of these colleges, such as Princeton University, actually require all four years of foreign language to be completed. This means that if you do take all four years of foreign language in high school you have a chance to qualify for those prestigious colleges that will greatly impact your future. What I mean by greatly impact your future is that it can “open up the door” to a multitude of new possibilities. Not to mention the much higher wage that you can earn if you get into these colleges. Not to mention that you should be able to keep doing your job for a longer period of time if you do take a foreign language for more than two
