It is very beneficial for students to take more than the two required years of a foreign language in high school. Would you believe me if I said that if you simply take more classes of foreign language in high school that you will obtain later life health benefits? Well, you do and that is only one of the benefits I will be discussing. The benefits of taking more than two years of foreign language are that it affects your cognitive processes in multiple ways, it can easily and greatly affect your future hourly wage and future job, and it has benefits on your health later in life.
Research has been universal in saying that your cognitive skills are affected for the better if you have taken more than two years of a foreign language in high school; this has been tested using the Stroop Task. In this task you are given the name of a color such as “red”, but the font the name is in is a different color such as you receiving the word “green” but the color of the font is actually blue and then you are tasked with reading out the color of the font and ignoring the name of the word. This test is used to gauge someone’s selective attention capacity and skills, as well as their processing speed ability.

Many of these colleges, such as Princeton University, actually require all four years of foreign language to be completed. This means that if you do take all four years of foreign language in high school you have a chance to qualify for those prestigious colleges that will greatly impact your future. What I mean by greatly impact your future is that it can “open up the door” to a multitude of new possibilities. Not to mention the much higher wage that you can earn if you get into these colleges. Not to mention that you should be able to keep doing your job for a longer period of time if you do take a foreign language for more than two

During my freshman and sophomore years of high school I took Spanish. It was a great experience to immerse myself in a different language and culture. I think every student in high school should take a language course because it makes for a better well rounded education. People who speak spanish as a main language are becoming more prominent in the United States, so it would be good to know at least the basics in case of an emergency. For example, I work at a Dunkin Donuts and sometimes someone who does not speak english with come in.
When I was younger I was enrolled into Bilingual classes since preschool which cost me dearly. While taking these classes I had trouble learning English and Spanish words at the same time. I struggled through elementary school because I was not used to focusing primarily on English which affected my grades. While it is true that colleges look for students who know more than one language, the problem with that requirement is that students who focus on two languages at once are more likely to fail their classes because they do not have their full attention directed towards the English language and they don’t pay attention to that factor. Colleges do not see the risk of being a bilingual student.
It also instills crucial skills like organization, self discipline and the ability to complete tasks from start to finish. In other words, college helps mold you into a more professional individual. Some may fear that they will attend four years of college but won’t graduate. In the article “Why College Isn’t for Everyone,” it’s simply stated that “...more than 40 percent of those attending four-year colleges full-time to fail to graduate...” (“Why College Isn’t for Everyone” 78).
This helps them find out what they want to do with their life with ease and brevity. The way it would make the transition and overall experience fast is by allowing students to get basic classes done in high school and making it unnecessary to wait years to apply to a college. By letting students get the basic classes done it is then letting them get into more specialized classes earlier on, instead of waiting because they’re schedule is too full. Also by being free, it means students don’t have to work in a low-end job for years to slowly accumulate the funds necessary to pay for

As Wayne Thomas and Virginia Collier describe in, “Two Languages are Better Than One,” children who come into school having a first language besides English, tend to struggle. Usually when a child struggles with a particular subject, they are taken out of the main classroom and brought somewhere for a remedial class.
