‘Keepsake’ Ultrasounds and Ultrasound Parties
Ultrasound imaging is the most common use during a woman’s pregnancy. It’s a non-ionizing radiation transmitted frequency waves that travels through the ultrasound machine to a woman’s stomach by using a transducer probe to capture 2-D images of baby fetus and other body parts. This is done by a Sonography Diagnostic Technologist ordered by the women’s OBGYN in their doctor visits. OBGYN want to make sure that the baby inside the womb is healthy and checks for any complications in the near future. On the contrary, pregnant mommies tend to want and capture other 3-D or 4-D images on their own to find out the sex of the baby without their OBGYN request. Keepsake ultrasound services are even more popular in every city. Although, this can be a very exciting milestone for the parents, it may also cause harm to their unborn baby. The American Pregnant Association agrees that “an ultrasound for

“Ultrasound imaging is a medical tool that can help a physician evaluate, diagnose and treat medical conditions” (FDA, n.d.). In this case, the Doppler ultrasound helps visualize the baby’s blood flow through organs and other body structures. Also, a fetal ultrasound is done to view the baby in pregnancy. To conclude, since it’s a non-ionizing radiation being performed, it doesn’t have the same big risks as the other medical imaging would. FDA stated that even though ultrasounds are considered safe, the energy provided by ultrasound can possibly create biological outcomes in the body. Too much heat in the skin tissue can produce cavitation. Cavitation is a formation of an empty space in the body, and because of this obtaining keepsake video or images for any non-medical purposes are being
UnityPoint OB/GYN Clinic is a non-profit four-physician practice located in an urban area of Fort Dodge, Iowa. The current practice within this clinic for pregnant women is at their first prenatal visit with the nurse they receive a large packet of information. This packet contains printed educational information, pamphlets, and a 200-page book. This information is not reviewed with the patients prior to leaving this appointment. This is the only prenatal visit that written educational information is given unless the patient requests more.
Trawick-Smith (2014) argues “Modern technology has given rise to a set of standard medical procedures used frequently in hospital births in Western Societies” (pg. 89). One of these standard medical procedures is the caesarian section. The caesarian section is a process where the newborn is removed surgically, an incision is made in the abdomen and the baby is removed from the uterus (Trawick-Smith, 2014, pg. 89). Throughout the years the caesarian section has become increasingly popular. The film argues that hospitals have different motives when it comes to the delivery of newborns.
Internal Imagers “Megan”, said Shanna holding a clip board with the patient’s information. As soon as the lady walked toward her, she admired the smiled that crossed the lady’s face, the joy her eyes had with her big belly in the way of her being able to walk right. Shanna was excited to see the patient once again with her husband because she knew they appreciated that she took care of what she was supposed to do, and let them know how their baby was doing. She took them to the room and checked how the baby was doing, in that moment Shanna realized how important her job was because she was excited to see the faces of the parents of an unborn child when she would tell them the gender of the baby. At the moment when she said
Diagnostic imaging is used every day all over the world and is growing rapidly. It is used in the hospital, OB/GYN offices, outpatient care centers, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and physicians’ offices (Cross, 2017). A diagnostic medical sonographer utilizes special equipment with sound waves to generate images. These images are used for assessing and diagnosing various medical conditions (Diagnostic, 2016). When most people hear the word sonography they think of pregnancy.
A sonographer will give patents ultrasounds to look at their heart, liver, veins, pregnant women. It is waves that bounce back an image to the prob. A sonographer will be able to tell by the ultrasound if there is a problem with the heart, any problems with the liver, and for pregnant women it’ll allow the mother to see their precious baby and it will allow the doctor to detect anything that might possibly be wrong with the baby. In this medical field you are required to use your hands and your mind. You have to move the stick around to be able to get the correct imaging on the screen, you have to move it around on a pregnant woman's belly to try to produce the most enhanced pictures on the baby to be able to see if there is anything wrong
It may be possible for individuals to obtain the umbilical cord. Additionally, patients may express cultural and/ social
For this article he has researched the history of doulas, and their low tech insertion in the high tech practice of obstetrics increases to support his authority on the subject. However, trust in the author’s voice, is achieved through his personal interviews with a birthing couple, the doula, and specialists in women’s health from two different healthcare organizations. The author notes the
Shah addresses the reader with caring motives and understanding of how physically demanding and life-changing pregnancy can be. ‘’I am acutely aware that even women with healthy pregnancies can develop life-threatening hemorrhage, fetal distress, or other unanticipated emergencies during labor.’’ Shah recognizes the risk associated with pregnancy and tells the reader of his concerns. He even recognizes the amount of financial expenses and stress associated with C-sections. ‘’Nearly, half of the of the caesareans we do in the US currently appear to be
Going to the next level in education after high school, I want to pursue a career in diagnostic medical sonography. Not many schools offer this as a major degree. I would be going for an associates degree. I’m looking at Keiser University, Central Ohio Technical College, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences for an education. There are two different diagnostic medical sonographer degrees.
“It has been speculated that ultrasound viewing will dissuade women from having an abortion.” However, a recent study shows that is not true. Analysis of data from a large urban abortion provider shows that when 15,575 patients seeking an abortion were given the option to view ultrasound images, 42.5% opted to do so. Those that opted to see the images terminated their pregnancy 98.4% of the time, those that chose not to, 99% of the
Sonography has significant advantages when used to operate on internal parts of the body including vessels, joints muscles and other soft structures of the body. Firstly, when performing procedures that involve injections, incisions and other invasive operations, ultrasound provides real-time visual aid to radiologists. It is also safer than X-rays and CT Scans which expose patients to ionizing radiation ("Risks, Benefits And Future Of Ultrasound • Ultrasound Technician") Because of the numerous benefits of using ultrasound technology, designers and medical practitioners are focusing on developing more efficient devices that are portable and cost saving. ("Risks,
Does an ultrasound technician earn much? How many days of vacation do they get? Is it worth being an ultrasound technician? After comparing South Texas College, Pima Medical Institute, and Eastern International College based on my criteria of distance from home, tuition costs, and medical programs, Pima Medical Institute would be the best choice in helping me pursue a career in Ultrasound Technician. Have you ever thought about what is required to be an ultrasound technician?
Too much exposure to ionizing radiation can damage the tissues. Children, young women and fetus are more sensitive to this type of radiation than others (Fahey, 2012). • Maintaining the Highest Level of Safety with NM Workers in nuclear medicine should follow safety rules. While working with radioactive materials, personal protective equipment like gloves, protective eye wear and cloths and in some cases fume hoods must be used. NM procedures must be practiced in special closed places.
The prenatal diagnostics and prenatal screening being routine procedures should be considered as advantage of modern medicine. It helps to reveal wide spectrum of fetus abnormal conditions, but not only congenital defects and malformations. Early detection of many of them could help to perform surgical correction and necessary management as soon as possible in order to save newborns’ lives. On the other hand, this method is widely discussed and it has many opponents, and in some countries prenatal diagnostic procedures is not considered now as a screening method. Main ethical issues are terminations of pregnancies in case of malformations, which may be supposed as eugenical abortion, inform consent and problem of decision-making process.
Some advantages of this technique are that there is no radiation involved, it is good at visualizing soft tissue, and that since it can visualize soft tissue so easily it can identify a multitude of different problems. Some disadvantages are that it is time consuming, expensive, and there is extensive training needed to operate it. The last type of imaging technique that will be covered is conventional radiography which can detect foreign bodies and changes or lesions of the skeletal system and is used when the corpse cannot fit into the CT machine. The advantages of this technique are that it is simple, quick, and cost efficient. However, it uses radiation, cannot make three-dimensional reconstructions, has a superimposed image, and it cannot visualize soft tissue
