Individuals unfortunately face the effects of uncertainty about the future during life. Uncertainty of the future makes us worry and scare of what is to come. In life, as in literature uncertainties effects are apparent, as in the poem As It Is by Dorianne Laux, and the writing piece Into Thin Air by John Krakauer. Individuals face uncertainty about the future by, denying to progress with the world, exploring new things and by things that are out of their control. First of all, people face uncertainty about their future by, denying to progress with the world. By denying to progress with world they are looked down upon, and it affects their everyday life. A prime example of this can be provided in the poem As It Is by Dorianne Laux, as it …show more content…
Sometimes other factors such as the environment can cause for uncertain futures. Things not of human capability and its effects on a uncertain future is explained in the writing piece Into Thin Air by John Krakauer, as it states “Among my five teammates who reached the top, four, including Hall, perished in a rogue storm that blew in without warning…”. This clearly states that things out of human control caused his men to die and also caused him to feel uncertain about his future. I can also relate to this topic as in grade 3, my town was struck by a huge wildfire. This natural disaster was completely out of my hands and made me feel uncertain about mine and my family's future as i didnt know if my school, my dads workplace, and my house had burnt down. From these instances it is apparent that things out of human control can cause people to have an uncertain …show more content…
Exploring new things can be quite uncertain at times, but people who deny to progress with the world are looked upon as the less evolved. Sometimes actions out of huan control can make the future seem non existent. Overall, individuals face an uncertain future by attempting new actions, refusing to evolve with the world, and actions that are out of human
Uncertainty triggers the “monster” to act in
One thing is definite. No matter what, everything seems to fall into place eventually. The concept of fate is really interesting and intriguing. You just happen to hit every red light and didn’t make your appointment on time only to hear about how the building was engulfed in flames or you decide to visit a different coffee shoppe one day and meet the love of your life. We never know what will take place during our lifetime.
People feel fear when they are uncertain of what is going on around them. Often times, “when people are afraid, they need to feel a sense of control. Often, control may be perceived when blame is cast and scapegoats are named. If there is someone to blame, then there is something we can do. Fear can lead to irrational postulations of immense proportions” (Hunter).
Ray Bradbury is a renowned author famous for his short science fiction stories and his novel "Fahrenheit 421". His works have inspired many and raised numerous questions about what the future may hold. He's quoted as saying "I don't try to describe the future. I try to prevent it." (Bradbury), and in many ways you can see the motif of this mindset in his work.
The future drives everyone to complete the goals they strive to complete in the present. To Ray Bradbury, the future that he predicts in the book could be both our present and future for generations to come. Bradbury
One of the many quotes from Ray Bradbury is “stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds, see the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” In other words, do what is best, live life to the fullest, as if every day was the last. Our own destiny might be unknown but the choices now will impact forever. It seems media, overpopulation, and censorship will also be a huge part of our destiny.
Ultimately, the human heart seeks comfort and familiarity. The great unknown strips away this feeling of safety, leading to a vulnerability that draws the true nature of a person into the harshness of reality. Unfamiliar environments, newly met strangers, the imminent and all-too-unpredictable future--these things generally incite feelings of insecurity and anxiety; for some, panic accompanies the thought of not having control. Some avoid matters of fear altogether, opting for a life softened with intentional ignorance. It is the fatal tendency of mankind to manipulate their troubles into trivial tasks that can easily be ignored and eventually forgotten, or at the very least, left to the side.
On the tragic day of August 6, 1945, US Air Force deployed the first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. A few days later, the second atomic bomb devastated the city of Nagasaki. These bombs were thought to end the war between Japan and America before other countries could get involved. To this day, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are still a source of pain and shame for those afflicted and for those who survived. In the poem, “Hiroshima Exit” by Canadian Writer Joy Kogawa presents a flash back of these events that occurred during World War II.
One example of this is the hysteria of McCarthyism in the 1950s. Many people are filled with fear of the Communists and accuse many innocent people. The accused must then say who else they know are involved, and this allows the hysteria to spread and leads to chaos. Another example of this in everyday life is terrorism. Many people in today’s society allow the extreme fear of a terrorist attack to control their actions and perceptions.
“I don’t try to describe the future, I try to prevent it.” (Bradbury) Bradbury’s depictions of the future, written in the 1950’s, explain his motives for writing in a science fiction style with a heavier emphasis on fiction than science. Ray Bradbury influences people in a way that cannot be mimicked. He used fictional stories to deliver an important message that can be applied throughout time. The message is how our actions affect our future today.
Before we're born, our lives are foretold. We're woven through puzzles until we're placed correctly, and we wait till our time comes. Our choices, actions, and beliefs are predicted by the Gods. Our blueprints are engraved in stone -- destined to follow their paths perfectly. Every step is planned, and every future is known.
Failures and successes in life have led many people to believe that destiny plays a role in one's future life outcome. Some say destiny, the “hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future”, is unchangeable; fate has already decided how one will live their life. Although in some cases this may be true, one is able to change their destiny by the deeds and actions they commit during their lifetime. Many people disregard the idea that actions play a large role in forming one's future.
It is important to live in the present and not in the future. For today is a sure thing, but tomorrow might never
