Unhealthy food is advertised almost everywhere .You can also buy it anywhere. Obesity is becoming quite common in the United States. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that the average American ate 20 percent more calories in the year 2000 than in the year 1983. Part of the reason was the boom for the need of high fructose corn syrup. This high fructose corn syrup can be found in almost everything we eat such as cookies, soft drinks, bread, sauces, and many other common ingredients that we use today. An experiment done by the Princeton University research team came to the conclusion that rats that were fed the high fructose corn syrup gained more weight than rats that were fed an equal number of calories of table sugars! Another thing that has taken a toll on Americans is fast food. In the nineteen seventies people in the United States spent about six billion on fast food annually. The precautions of consuming unhealthy foods such be outlined not only short- term, but also long terms effects. Students using this information can make wise decisions and also make healthy conscious choices in order to improve not only their current state of being, but also reduce the possibility of long term effects. Another thing that should be done is also making organic foods more accessible. Currently the cost of organic foods and the non-organic is too great. For example according to the Maine organic framers and garners association non-organic eggs run about $2.59 per dozen while organic eggs area approximately $4.18 a dozen which equals a 61% increase in prize. If the prices of the organic foods decrease and become more accessible, better foods will be available to students and will enable them to make healthier
