Last September, The University of Hong Kong has set up its first unisex toilet and it is the first unisex toilet in Hong Kong. What is unisex toilet? It is a toilet that advocate to be used by transgender which are people that have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex. According to the gender stereotype, gender is classified into male and female base on their biological sex instead of their brain or thoughts. For example, a biological male think he is a female but the society regard him as a male since his biological sex is male. Because there is a conflict between their gender identity and biological gender, people would do the sex reassignment surgery to alter their gender people would call this as transgender. …show more content…

Firstly, they think it will leads to increase sexual assault cases. Frankly, it won’t. Before having unisex toilet, transgender people use the toilet that match with his/her gender expression. Over the 35 year, US Non-Discrimination Ordinances protecting transgender people all over the world and there is only one case that a transgender abusing a Non-Discrimination Ordinances and committing sexual assault has been found. FBI reports that over 84,000 rapes were reported in 2014 alone, none of which exploited gender identity inclusive Non-Discrimination Ordinances to commit sexual assault. As there were little number of transgender would commit sexual assault, it doesn’t look like would increase the sexual assault after having unisex toilet. Regardless of whether a Non-Discrimination Ordinances is in place, to enter a bathroom to harm or harass people. When sexual predators do commit sexual assault in bathrooms, they don’t need to pretend to be transgender and exploit Non-Discrimination Ordinances to do so. People commit also acts of voyeurism with us without Non-Discrimination Ordinances in place, and don’t need to pretend to be transgender to do so
