Essay On Dirty Water

The system uses water in the entire product stream so that it generates less dust and this also prevents dust from becoming airborne. Application of water in dust suppression is highly effected by using the correct nozzles which project the water droplets at the desired velocities, but their design and characteristics must be given careful consideration, as well as their installation and operations. Guiding principles for the use of water in dust suppression should be to ensure that the rock or other mineral being handled is wetted before abrasion or comminution, and where the dust is unavoidably released into the air during any operation the spray from the nozzle should be applied as close as possible to the source of dust production. Atomisation should not be too fine otherwise insufficient dust will be precipitated.
Cleanliness of water
The water used for spraying should be acid free and be as clean as possible. Dirty water can clog the nozzles or even release further dust into the air. Many complaints about on the use of sprays were as a result of the use of dirty water.
Recommendation are to use a water-cleaning device (strainers) in the pipeline that will remove all particles above 0.5mm which can handle about 7000-7500 l/h without any large pressure loss. Water nozzles should be checked regularly to ensure they are in good working condition.
How important is water conservation?
To minimize overspray and water waste it is important to specify the nozzle characteristics. Controls should be used to ensure the system is active only when needed. Simple solenoid valves can be used to control the system by ensuring that system is active when needed.
The spray solution.
• Plain water systems are typically the least expensive and easiest to design and implement
• Adding surfactants to water will lower the surface tension and allows better interaction between water and certain types of dust that resist water absorption
• Foam systems use less water but usually require compressed
