Water Pollution is one of the major concerns that is currently increasing, not only in the Philippines, but also across the world. Industrialization, Urbanization and Damming of rivers are one of the reasons behind the contamination of water (Villahermosa, R.A., 2012). These ill activities of humans can greatly affect the water especially its chemical and biological composition which can easily be observed with its cloudiness or its turbidity. It can also cause the pH of the water to increase resulting into acids, alkaline or neutral color that are found in the water. (Moloi, 2013). Damming of rivers on the other hand has a high impact on the quality of the water. If a plant will be isolated into the water for a long time, this may cause the inclination of phosphates and other dissolved nutrients in the water or simply, eutrophication. (Moloi, 2013).

My 8th grade class went to the Conodoguinet creek to test if there was any pollution in the creek water. This lab uses a lake simulation to study how the addition of nutrients and toxins can affect the lake, its inhabitants and the surrounding area. There is a strong focus on the addition of Phosphorous and added toxins because both are key elements in growth in lakes. The Virtual lake includes these five simulated species; green algae, cyanobacteria, bosmina, daphnia, and trout. There are two types of phytoplankton in the lake model, green algae and cyanobacteria. Green algae are a very diverse group that are photosynthetic, aquatic, plant like organisms that have a very simple reproductive structure.
Analysis The experiment conducted on Freshwater Creek involved the following parameters, Dissolved Oxygen, Biochemical Oxygen Demand and Dissolved Phosphates. Three samples were taken from midstream for both BOD and Dissolved Phosphates, these samples were later taken back to the lab were they were later analyzed and results were recorded. Dissolved oxygen was recorded further down-stream, at several different locations. Three samples were taken in shade and another three were taken in areas of sunlight, where the results were then later recorded. Dissolved Oxygen levels indicated the overall amount of non-compounded oxygen found in the creek water.
As a result, this will allow for a natural filter. This will create a possible water source that is safe for humans to drink. Water Pollution in San Joaquin Valley San Joaquin Valley is a place that stretches from 7 different counties such as Stanislaus to Kern county. San Joaquin Valley is known for their agriculture land since the late 19th century, which feeds most of the United States with the vegetables and fruits that are grown in the valley. The rich life of life in agricultural fields rely on the water supply that the valley contains such as groundwater and water on shore. Throughout the past decades, the water quality in San Joaquin Valley becomes to decrease from clean water to polluted water.
Because of the dearth of fish, the White River had to be restocked. In addition to the effects on the wildlife, the contaminated water of the White River has serious negative effects on the surrounding environment. Pollutants introduced into the river cause these negative effects on the environment. For example, “sewage, fertilizer, and agricultural runoff contain organic materials that when discharged into waters, increase the growth of algae, which causes the depletion of oxygen” (“Causes and Effects of Water Pollution”).

Clean water is essential for both mental and physical development. Lead in tap water causes many birth defects. Thousands of contaminants are present in tap water which are even poisonous. Based on observing the organisms living in the creek, the water quality of the U-High creek was excellent. However, not all bodies of water have excellent water quality. Most bodies of water with below average water quality are affected by humans. One way humans could negatively impact water quality is through runoff. It is common for farmers to put many pesticides and fertilizers on their crops, but these substances can be washed into rivers and add extra nitrate and phosphorus into the water.
