Male Order Bride “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a short story narrated by a woman who is losing her mind. When the narrator admits her mental illness, she is told by her husband John, a doctor, to rest and do as little thinking as possible. This only drives her madness and makes the reader question the abilities of her husband. Does he really care about her if he cannot see that his own advice is driving her mad? The “rest cure” was not made up by her husband; it was a common practice during the late 1800’s and was believed to be effective for the most part because of society’s views of women.

We have Verbal, Nonverbal, listening and responding and asking questions as listening skills listed in chapter 7 of our text books. I feel two would be best when dealing with a resistant client. I feel listening and responding as well as asking questions are the most effective ways to deal with a client who just does not want to be in front of you, or does not agree with having to be in front of you. I feel listening and responding is effective because if the client is quiet, extremely demanding or totally unmotivated we need to listen to them and allow them to express themselves in any way they feel they need to for us to understand their point of view. I can see next follow with questions being very effective.
Natalie Merchant’s song “Gold Rush Brides” features a very powerful and illustrative story of women during the westward expansion, which is detailed in chapter 16 of Eric Foner’s book, Give Me Liberty. The song demonstrates the hardships and the impact that women during that period faced with their migration towards the west. Merchant starts the song off by describing the lengthy journey “down prairie roads” and expanding westward. Foner explains that the journey itself was sparked by the numerous farmers moving westward and the prospectors who struck it rich during the California gold rush.

As Fregoso (1993) points out in her analysis of Yo Soy Joaquin, Yo Soy Chicano, and Chicanas, murals have played a key role in both Mexican and Chicano social and political movements and in film. Therefore, from a multimodal and genre perspective, the depiction of murals in the film is both an intertextual reference to previous films in which murals have figured prominently and a subtext about Mexicanidad and Chicano history reflecting social justice issues.
I found the weekly planner assignment to be enlightening because it showed my weekly progression for the goals I set at the beginning of the week and the roles that I embrace in a given week. This assignment has helped me with what I can do better to align my goals with my actions. These goals come from the roles that define me, so by increasing my chances of achieving my goals, I am also developing my various roles. Completing a weekly planner for two weeks has provided me an opportunity to be critical of how I spend my time and change it to be more complementary to my key roles. The first week of the assignment , I spent a lot of time practicing, helping teammates with their schoolwork, and studying for the LSAT.
In Canada, many people understand marriage to be a legal union between a couple that formally recognizes their true love for each other. In other parts of the world, different cultures practice arranged marriages planned by the family or guardians of the bride and groom. Without a doubt, there are successful long-lasting love stories derived from arranged marriages. However, the whole process of an arranged marriage can have negative social implications. In my opinion, I believe that arranged marriages are wrong and should no longer be acceptable across the globe.
