Wheatgrass is a young grass of the common wheat plant, Triticum aestivum. It is gaining momentum as a ‘functional food’ with an intention of lowering risk of various ailments. It is documented as a complete food due to the presence of amino acids, vitamin and mineral (some only in trace amounts) necessary for human nutrition.. Wheatgrass is consumed for its healing properties and treatment of certain types of cancers due to its ferric super oxide reduction ability as well as the antioxidant activity. Its cancer healing properties are due to high levels of chlorophyll called chlorophyllin.
