To quote the author and lifestyle philosopher Alexandra Stoddard, “When you leave a beautiful place, you carry it with you wherever you go.” I couldn’t agree more with this statement, and though I will try to pour my heart out as I write this essay and attempt to describe the true magnificence of Inis Mór, if I could use one word, it would simply have to be…beautiful. I very much appreciate the privilege of growing up in a household where travel is appreciated. Since a very young age, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve been to many places that I would consider beautiful, but the one place that has made the most significant impact on me was Inis Mór. I very well remember the day that I first arrived on the amazing island of Inis Mór, located on the west coast of Ireland. It was a sunny September Sunday, with several showers now and then. I had heard my dad talking about Inis Mór for a couple of months now, and decided that since it made such an impression on him, I have to see it myself. I have to admit, spending a couple of hours driving through the midlands of Ireland is not the most interesting thing to do, but once we arrived in the port in Rossaveel and were preparing to get on the ferry, I began to feel the excitement.
