The lack of compensation for college athletes calls attention to the colleges and universities that do not have to pay the athletes. Although there are rules in place for college athletes to be paid for their name and likeness by outside companies, the schools themselves are not required to compensate the athletes for their time and hard work. The demand on student-athletes is tremendous. The need to perform in front of hundreds of thousands of people in order to bring success to their school’s name does not allow much room for relaxation. These sports teams require many hours throughout the week to practice and prepare for games that will be nationally televised. This extra time commitment causes student athletes to lose study and social time. Instead of having a ‘normal’ college social experience, student-athletes are often found in the weight room, on a travel bus, or at practice.
