Since 2021 the NCCA Ruling allows college athletes to to get paid for their name, image and likeness. The problem I have is that there not paid by their universities or collges but they receive gifts from boosters, make deals with company to use there name and endorse products. They provide relief from daily life, something to look forward to, and serve as a gathering point for friends and family to enjoy each-others company. With all college sports give back to the people, many have wondered if the athletes which make it all possible should be paid. Some argue that college athletes should remain amateurs, as that makes the unique spirit of the game different than the current pro leagues.
The NCAA published a study in 2020 which highlighted how low of a chance student athletes have at going pro, for football only 1.6% percent of student athletes went pro, while in Men's Basketball student athletes only had a 1.2% chance of going pro. Some say that many people make money off of them by selling jerseys, doing ads, and etc. So they should at least make some money for other people using them. While the athlete was the one who generated the profits that the NCAA is in possession of, they receive no compensation for the work they have done. The NCAA exploits athletes by forcing them to work harder and harder to keep up with demands. Instead of compensating the athletes for their increased efforts, the NCAA gets away with generating more profit. The NCAA gives the illusion that they are focused on supporting athletes, but in reality, they will not be stopped from taking advantage of poor college athletes.

In the article “Don’t Pay College Athletes” Cody McDavis the writer states, “A handful of big sports programs would pay top dollar for a select few athletes, while almost every other college would get caught up in a bidding war it couldn't afford” (McDavis par. 1). This leads to an unfair battle because the players are going to go wherever the money is at. Also, unfair matches because if top recruits go to the same college it would create a super team and become a pay-to-win.
