Addictive Substances: Cigarettes The question at issue in this paper is: Why do people smoke cigarettes? And what are the different side effects of smoking. Unfortunately, one in every three adult is a regular cigarette smoker according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Cited below are some main reasons on why adults smoke:

The above mentioned reasons on why adults smoke cigarettes is because smoking cigarettes can give relaxation and reduce the stress that they are experiencing for only a short amount of time. Adults tend to depend on smoking for them to be relieved of a burden they feel or to be able to function properly thus becoming addicted to cigarettes. If a person depends to smoking for a reason, he or she would have a hard time to quit smoking especially if the person has been smoking for a long time. Since 1 out of 3 adults are regular cigarette smokers, it means that a person that enters a new group of circle may have a lot of chance wherein he or she may encounter a lot of people that smokes cigarettes and somehow be influenced by it. 2.1 ADDICTION Addiction is one of the reasons why people nowadays cannot stop smoking. Nicotine is the principle addictive substance in cigarettes and other styles of tobacco. Nicotine is a drug that affects many components of your frame, together with your brain. Over the years, your frame and mind get used to having nicotine in them. About 80% – 90% of people who smoke regularly are addicted to nicotine.
If individuals have a history of nicotine addiction in their family and were surrounded by people who were tobacco users, then these people are more likely to begin smoking and turn into a nicotine addict. Family is the primary level of socialization in a child’s life, so the family becomes key in a child’s early development.
