Teen tiredness is now considered to be a public health pandemic. School starting at a later time is beneficial because it helps students catch up on sleep. It helps students stay out of trouble. And it helps students ability to learn. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
I believe that school should start later to coincide with the natural sleep clocks that teenagers have for a few reasons. My first reason is that teenagers have to take in a lot of information each day, and so much of what is being taught cannot be remembered by the students if they are half-asleep for most of the day. You are sitting in your classroom and the teacher is teaching the class a new lesson. You start to fall asleep and soon you wake up and realize that you have an assignment and have no clue how to do it because you had fell asleep during class. Now you have to go up to the teacher and embarrass yourself by asking the teacher to reteach the lesson to you because you fell asleep in class.
