Ebola is one of many hot agents around the world, however it is the deadliest. Ebola outbreaks occur in primates, and are deadly. Ebola is a filoviridae that is extreme, and in most cases fatal, attacking primates, including humans (“Ebola” 1). Ebola has mutated, creating different strands that affects different primates in different ways. There's five different mutations of the Ebola virus: Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, Taï Forest Ebola, Ebola Reston, and Bundibugyo Virus (“Ebola” 1).
Much like the Greeks, Ebola can come inside one cell in an organism. The symptoms of Ebola can sneak into an organism’s body without much warning and begin to destroy the insides until symptoms like headaches are reported. Once the cell is inside, it spreads and doesn’t cease destruction until the host is dead. The way in which the Trojan horse and the Ebola virus attack are very similar: brutal, clever and inconspicuous. Preston compares the historical story of legend of the Trojan horse to the Ebola virus, hence allusion is portrayed in his
Viruses are spread from the lack of resources such as clean medical supplies, funding, and a general lack of medical treatment knowledge. In the novel, The Hot Zone, the Ebola virus was first discovered in Africa. It was a new type of virus that was unknown to the people there. When the virus started to infect patients in the hospital, it was not only because of the virus itself that caused it, but it was also the lack of clean medical supplies. When nuns were giving patients injections for protection from the Ebola virus, Preston described, “There were five needles a day to give injections to patients” (Preston 102).
In a short while, the disease has spread to Sierra Leone which bordered Guinea and people were killed without solution or medication to treat the virus. By the way, “Ebola is an infectious and generally fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, spread through contact with infected body fluids by a filo virus (Ebola Virus) whose normal host species are unknown”. En.wikipedia.org. As a result of
For most of ‘us’, western people, the Ebola outbreak is something that happened in the past. For the people living in the centre of the outbreak, there is no ending to the disaster. Many of them have lost more than one family member, and some might still deal with sickness. The disaster will be in their memory forever. People who are infected by the virus, are placed into quarantine.
The waves of deadly diseases did not stop there, but a new disease called Ebola was introduced not too long ago. More than 23,200 people from Africa have died, and still more counting worldwide. However, doctors and medical teams from all over the world united to defeat Ebola efficiently and effectively. They have decreased the rate of death and infection from a few hundred cases a week to much fewer currently. This could only happen if people from all countries worked together and effectively
If untreated, people still can die from the plague, which in the United States occurs in the wild(“Plague Occurs”). The last urban outbreak of the plague in the United States occurred in Los Angeles in 1924 to 1925(“Plague Occurs”). Europe’s population went down quick because of the plague and it impacted tons of people(Dobson 11). 60 percent of Europe’s entire population , 50 million were killed(Benedictow). The plague impacted parts of Asia today and people are being killed by the disease.
The Case Of The Ebola Virus The ‘Ebola Virus Disease’ (EVD), formerly known as ‘Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever’ (EHF) or as its simply and most commonly called ‘Ebola’, is a severe and most often fatal illness in primates, most particularly humans – as paraphrased by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Its first appearance in the world came in the year 1976 in two cases of common time in the African continent within the regions of Nzara, Sudan and Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. The name Ebola is derived from the Ebola river which is a neighboring river near the location of the outbreak in Yambuku. The virus is believed to have originated from animals, passing on to humans which in turn spread from human to human encounters. The migratory
The reason I chose to investigate this topic is because; I am planning to pursue a career in medicine and the statistics and working of the spread of an epidemic greatly interests me. Studying how researchers and epidemiologists come to a conclusion whether or not a disease will turn into an impending epidemic would help in my later years studying in the field of medicine. Exploration Mathematical Modeling of Ebola Brief History The Ebola virus was first discovered in the year 1976, and the most recent outbreak in West Africa (March 2014) is considered the largest and most complex outbreak since. The numbers of deaths in the 2014 outbreak are far greater than all the previous outbreaks combined. It has spread to countries starting in Guinea to various other land borders; Sierra Leone and Liberia, These being the most severely affected due to weak health systems and lack of human and infrastructural
When an animal becomes endangered, than people have no idea how long these animals have till they will be lost forever (Endangered Species: Facts). The reason why species become endangered is because their habitat is lost, animals have competition when it comes to eating, and pollution in our economy (Endangered Species: Facts). If people tried to reduce the pollution and did not take land that did not belong to them, than some animals would not be endangered to this day (Endangered Species: Facts). “As of May 2017, the U.S. FIsh and Wildlife Service lists 2,392 animals as endangered worldwide” (Endangered Species: Facts).
