Leadership and management are the essential elements of effective management in an organization. Leadership can be referred to as the potential of an individual to influence and drive the efforts of his group towards accomplishment of desired goals (Ang, 2012). Management on the other hand is focused more on planning, organizing and coordinating. A leader’s job in any profession is to plan, organize, coordinate and inspire and motivate the employees working under him/her (Moos, 2008). Effective leaders are good communicators and they have clear set of values, which they promote and try inculcating them in others by convincing and influencing the members by communicating them effectively to the team members (Luthra & Dahiya, 2015). Good communication skills of the leaders help in developing better understanding, trust, beliefs and commitment among people and inspire them to follow the values and principles, which the leaders want to inculcate in them (Heikka, et al., 2013). This can only be achieved, with the help of proper and effective communication, failing to communicate your message or send across your message properly may not be able to build trust and understanding among team members and other staff members. Good leaders consider a communication to be productive when there is two-way communication and consider communication process is completed after speaking and listening with understanding (Luthra & Dahiya, 2015). Effective communication for a good leader is about understanding the opinion, emotions and knowledge level of the receiver and prepare the message or action to communicate, which would deliver the message effectively to the receiver (Gimbert & Fultz, 2009). People play different roles in such a context, which include child center manager, child center director, administrator, coordinator, teacher and many other roles (Aubrey, et al., 2013). These professionals come from wide range of backgrounds in terms of social, economic, cultural, political and moral conditions and hence are culturally and linguistically diverse (Heikka, et al., 2013). The norms, beliefs, values and assumptions of these professionals have impact on the children in the early childhood education settings. What they perceive and how they react to certain things in different situations mostly depends on professionals working in that industry. Early childhood services is the place where children spend most of their early years and hence leadership among the professionals in that context has potential to mold a child’s approach towards their actions and beliefs and appreciation of humanity (Sims, 2009). In early childhood education settings, the children develop the skills of learning different languages through contact and communication with other children that they come across in the setting. Carnes (2011) highlight that leadership in such settings should create a quality learning environment.
