Joining a discourse community is something that we’ve all experienced, whether it's family, sports clubs or even going to church. In class we have been talking about the types of discourse communities we are apart of and sharing it with our fellow classmates. A discourse community is a group of people who share a set of discourses, understood as basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. I feel that it is very important to be apart of a discourse community because you share ideas and thoughts upon each other to build a relationship. Everybody is apart of a discourse community throughout the world.
Is it accurate that the dues are different for the two townhome properties as Linda states? If so, what are the HOA dues for the two properties? Furthermore, if this is true, there is no way a Veranda owner can equitably represent a Carriage owner. Therefore, it is paramount that each community has its own board member seated on the board.
As a Resident Advisor, I am committed to advocate diversity and inclusion in the dorm. I organized both planned programs like inclusive language campaign in the hall and passive programs like social justice- themed bulletin board to enhance residents’ awareness on social identities issues. Carefully observing the interactions among the residents, I have addressed and resolved conflicts raised due to race, ethnicity and gender issues through active communication.

Becoming a Community Center Assistant, I will express various information that may involve the residents major including helping them succeed academically by sharing my experience as a Freshman. By doing this, I am helping others get the full benefit of their educational experience while helping them to stay updated on what is happening around the campus. It is always a good idea for people to be aware of the information involving their education, and as Community Center Assistant I envision that happening. Being an African American student in a PWI school was first difficult to adjust but with the help of extracurricular activities was able to adapt. As a Community Center Assistant I advise residence on way that they adjust to where they live
ESSAY ONE (minimum 300 words) -Community can be defined as a number of people living in the same area and linked by common values, practices, and goals (Spitzberg & Thorndike, 1992). Describe an experience in which you made a positive difference in a community you are a member of. What did you learn about the concept of “communities” from this experience, and how do you see these lessons playing out when forming a community in Honors Housing? One way that I dedicate time to my community is by volunteering at my local YMCA. I volunteered for SNAP (Special Needs Adaptive Program), where once a week, I would help a student with one-on-one swimming instruction.
Civic engagement is when people gather together which “refers to attitudes, behaviors, knowledge, and skills that are aimed at improving society and is derived from an interest in improving the common good” (Rossi 1041). For example, people who volunteer in hospitals or in public schools, people who vote or help others register to vote, and people who attend city council meetings are all some examples of civic engagement. One outcome of civic engagement is civic responsibility, which means that people have the responsibility of being an active citizen by sharing their opinions and stances to enhance their local communities (Rossi 1042). The second outcome of civic engagement is civic participation, which is when people take action by volunteering or being involved in politics to enrich their communities (Rossi 1042). It is important for people to be civically engaged because it will benefit their community and themselves as well because they will gain more knowledge and skills.
In “Getting Coffee Is Hard to Do,” Stanley Fish writes about the difficulties in getting a cup of coffee. He states how something so easy has now become so difficult. In today’s society people are finding it harder than ever before to save money. People find themselves not being able to save because they are putting their desires in place or ahead of their needs.
The professional path a person chooses for him or herself is very hard to find. It takes a lot of researching and thought into deciding what career or type of work will be a part of a person's daily basis for the most of their life. I have thought long and hard in order to decide what I will be doing as a profession, and I want to become a psychologist. I will do what I need to become a good psychologist, and one of those things I have to do is go to college. I also have to make goals, plans and decide what college fits best win who I am.
I define community as a group of people coming together to accomplish the same goal. There are always people that are going to have differences but when it comes to something that we all want it is put aside and till we accomplish our goal. When we talk about as a community we hear out all ideas and never leave anyone out of it. We have a small community that makes it easy for people to talk get to know each other and work for the same goal. My community is my football team from high school.
