A road of twist and turns that are subtle in life's changing ways, one would be clueless in the edges or uneasiness of Earth. Esther is a young woman who is full of intellect and plans for her future. Although her life goes from an orderly and practical life, it turns into a completely obliterate and tangled one in a snap of a finger. Esther was then living in New York and works for a month as guess editor for a fashion magazine since she won in the contest with other eleven ladies in the place. She survived her multiple suicide attempt with no permanent injuries. Nevertheless, Esther was admitted to a private facility with the help of Philomena Guinea, a philanthropist who supported Esther throughout her scholarship. In the new environment, Esther build trust on her new psychiatrist named Dr. Nolan. She slowly begin to improve with the different therapies given to her, including are talk therapy and insulin injections. She also had a visitor, another girlfriend of Buddy Willard who had the experience similar situation to Esther. Dr. Nolan then moved Esther to Belsize, a different ward which entails more privileged than the other wards. She was scheduled for a shock treatment without her being aware of it. As Esther improves with her health, the hospital officials gave her permission to leave the hospital. While Esther visits Joan in Cambridge, she meets a Harvard professor named Irwin where she loses her virginity. Thus making her bleed profusely as Joan takes her to the hospital. Esther is then return to the institution while Joan was found to be missing. Only to find out that she hanged herself and was found in the woods. Esther prepares to leave the hospital when the next semester begins. She also believed that she already regained a grasp in her own insanity, although people might treat her negatively and her mother might think of her admission to the hospital as a bad dream.
