Ethical constraints fear limits our ability to acquire new knowledge when the subject could be offensive or cause harm to living things. The great American philosopher, Joel Feinberg, determined that “his examination of rights should include a careful discussion of the extent to which offense can ever be morally/ethically justified and if there are circumstances in which it should be legally prohibited”. However, some knowledge cannot be acquired without questioning and experiments. Occasionally, those two methods touch sensitive topic or require some sacrifice to be processed. In order to idealize our living society, nobody should feel scared or threatened to express his or her thoughts and ideas. Freedom of expression should be ensured, and any kind of discussion and thoughts should not be limited. Also, the greatest achievements by mankind have brought both of happiness and damage to the society. Yet, the main reason of the research should still be focused on providing the biggest benefit and happiness possible to the society and living things.
Freedom of speech/Ethics
Ethical constraints are often held in question when a topic contains religious issue. Armed Islamist two brothers attacked the French satirical weekly newspaper called Charlie Hebdo in Paris on the

Acquiring new knowledge is a necessary step to build better society, and freedom of speech should not be invaded in a fair world. However, some knowledge cannot be pursued without causing damage and loss. Charlie Hebdo horribly offended Islam but casualties were not necessary to be killed since the magazine also had right to spread their way of knowledge. Animal testing would be eventually killing many animals in a lab, however, it has improved many human and animals lives and substitute methods are already being used when the animal testing is not
Research is an investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts. It has helped humans to understand, improve and develop new methods of health care, new theories or laws. However, many achievements made in research practice with human subjects violated the participants’ rights and dignity. Since there were no regulations in the past about using human subjects for research, many human lives were damaged or lost. In the 1960s and 1970s, a series of scandals concerning mistreatment of human subjects in research underlined the need to protect human participants in research (“Ethical and Policy Issues in Research”, 2001).
In the society of today, discussion on the topic of freedom of speech is at a forefront. The question on whether there are any limitations on the freedom of speech is one which causes a constant battle between “right and wrong” within the media and with public institutions. The argument that there are no limitations to expression is one which bears a lot of support from not just the liberalist area of society, but also quite often draws a lot of support from the conservative part too, as it is something that allows both sides to express their opinions. The importance of expressing ones opinions is something that the philosopher and economist John Stuart Mill believes is a fundamental part of human liberty. It is certainly true that there are always more than one way of looking at a situation, and finding truth within a situation can only be found if there are no limitations to people’s freedom of expressing their opinions on the said situation.
Given that there are several alternatives at present, there is no logical reason for humans to violate animal rights in laboratory experiments. The use of traditional animal testing today shows an irrational, unjust, cruel act of human selfishness. Although I acknowledge most of Regan’s claims, I do not agree with his statement “…if that means that there are some things we cannot learn, then so be it. There are also some things we cannot learn by using humans, if we respect their rights”.
Animal Testing has been a very controversial topic for decades. Throughout history, animal testing has played a major role in leading to many new medicines and discoveries. Most of the world participates in these experiments, with the aims of achieving the most modern technologies. Animal testing needs to be continued to advance our science and medicines, and to continue to save millions of lives.
On January the Seventh, two radical Muslims from the Islamic State attacked a newspaper in Paris, France called; Charlie Hebdo, because of a series of nude cartoons that were released in the newspaper depicting the Muslim prophet Mohammed. Twelve people were killed in the attack on Charlie. Four of those people were the actual cartoonists who edited, approved and drew the cartoon. The other eight were simply just workers at Charlie. The two radicals were able to escape the building, but were later killed at a French printing press.
Ethical Violations By Essence Sanchez Professor Sabina Balkaran Keiser University February 10, 2017 What is Ethics? Ethics or moral principles is presumably recognized as a set of conduct codes that one should live up to in which distinguishes between behaviors or thoughts that are considered unacceptable or acceptable in society. Ethical guidelines have been reinforced to protect the people from any psychological or physical damage.(Resnik, 2015)
Even though decades have passed, there are still people who argue that animal testing is essential to saving millions of human lives; not even realizing the lack of results, the high cost, and the immortality
I’m here today to talk about a controversial issue that has been around for a period of time, animal testing. Animal testing using animals in experiments with different chemical substances in everything from medical to cosmetic to determine their safety as well as effectiveness . It’s a problem that has existed since the 3rd and 4th centuries BCE with its merciless methods and painful ways of abusing animals for human demands, but now it’s time for it to stop. Our technology has developed significantly since; therefore, such medieval methods of torturing animals are no longer necessary. Researches have shown that each year, over 100 million animals are tortured and killed in American laboratories alone, including dogs, cats and more; this shows how far out of hand animal testing have gotten.
First of all, the conduction of animal experimentation can be easily rejected because of the immorality and cruelty that comes with it. Every year at least 115 million animals die in laboratories due to animal testing (Taylor K., 2008) and the numbers are steadily increasing. The shocking statistic proves that it has come to a point where we should ask ourselves, is it really worth it? Animals, like humans, are living organisms that are sentient and are capable of suffering. Conducting these experiments only make animals seem like tools used for the progress of humanity, stripping away the factor that they possess the same right to life we abuse every day.
“Hey mom can you make some chicken tonight? No, son remember our government enacted the new animal bill of rights.¨ this is a conversation that one would not want to partake in because of how absurd soundsWell we are not far from a day where one would be participating in such a conversation due to the fact that people are trying to approve an Animal Bill of Rights. The Animal Bill of Rights would cause a lot of controversy and problems in the future. Animals do not deserve an Animal Bill of Rights due to the fact that: animals are a large source of our food, animals are needed to apply research based tests on, and lastly the Animal Bill of Rights should not dictate how we treat the pets that we own Humans have interacted with animals for years, but this Animal Bill of Rights will change the way we interact with them.. A common
In light of these, the following ethical issues will be taken into account when the research will undertake: The objective of this study will be made clear to each participant. All the respondents will participate in the research voluntarily. Only those participants who are voluntary will be
The first reson animal testing should be continued is so we can make new cures shore new medicines are safe. Without animal testing some medicines would have harmed humans. Animal testing is a much safer way to test these medicines before they reach humans. Animal testing has also led to some breakthroughs in medical science. Animal testing is also helping with finding some cures to Cancer and Alzheimer 's. Smith said “if animal research were prohibited, scientific advances would be hopelessly stymied” (smith).
Imagine an enraged animal rights activist charging toward a scientist in a white lab coat, desperate to free the little mice that are being used as test subjects. Although comical, this scene may be quite accurate when describing the passion that animal lovers have when it comes to the touchy subject of animal testing. For centuries, animal testing has been used in the medical research field, however many are now beginning to question whether it is ethical. Millions of animals are killed per year due to animal testing, so is this practice worth banning? Animal testing is a controversial subject, with supporters pointing out the medical advances that have stemmed from animal research and animal rights activists declaring it cruel and immoral.
Animals Testing Is animal testing necessary?. Should we ban expending animals in medical research or not?. More than 26 million animals are used in different countries like the United States and Canada. Animal testing may by defining as the use of animals in experiments and research that seeks to control the variable that impacts the behavior or biological system under study. Using large number of animals is mainly meant to find treatments and cure for certain diseases.
