During the 19th century, the use of Dark Romantic writing became a prominent style in Europe. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, illustrates a horrific story of a scientist’s journey to creating life from the dead. The pursuit for knowledge causes certain characters’, such as Victor Frankenstein and Robert Walton, to explore the depths of the unknown,without paying attention to the consequences that lie ahead. Because of the constant desire to obtain recognition for one’s work, it causes Victor Frankenstein and Robert Walton to become isolated from the real world, and ultimately make themselves and the people around them suffer. Being raised in the mountains of Geneva, Victor Frankenstein’s upbringing depicts the early learning of knowledge.
As encounters between people occur memories or moments that may impact one’s future are created. In Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and Grendel by John Gardner encounters between characters help develop and progress the story. The relationships between the major and the minor characters in Frankenstein and Grendel help illuminate the themes of lost innocence, isolation, and power. In Frankenstein, Shelly develops Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a monster, through the loss of his mother, which results in the loss of his innocence. The death of his mother causes him to become obsessed with the “mysteries of creation,” which is demonstrated in his endeavors at university in Germany.
In order to create this power source, the scientists fire up this machine that accidentally create this portals to other dimensions, and as a result, the monster in Cloverfield is able to transport onto the Earth and wreak havoc on New York City. Although these movies are connected in their storyline, they also have many differences. These differences can be spotted by the way the movie is shot, the actors, and the conflict. Both movies were produced by J.J. Abrams. Abrams has also produced movies like the newest Star Wars trilogy and the new Star Trek trilogy.
The Hero Cycle brings order to the necessary journey of a hero, whether it may be the many unorthodox versions of a hero. The cycle contains elements that follows a primary figure in Orson Scottcard’s science fiction novel, Ender’s Game, named Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, who is six in the beginning of the novel; he deals with the repercussions of being a third child, a forbidden stigma. When earth is once again threatened by the buggers, an alien species that have previously been defeated by Mazer Rackham during the first and second invasions, Colonel Graff of the International Fleet (a government organization established to protect Earth from the buggers) recruits Ender in hopes that he really is the key to success that the I.F. has always anticipated, but he must leave his parents and older siblings, Peter and Valentine. He faces many ordeals while in Battle School and Command School, like the many computer simulations, battles in null gravity, and the isolation placed on him by the school administrators.
Monsters are often classified based upon their appearance and inhumane characteristics. In the book Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein tears apart graveyards for the formation of a new being, which is brought to life with electricity. Frankenstein was fascinated with life itself and wanted to create this being through the dead with the use of science. After multiple years of suturing this new being together Victor succeeded in bringing this creature to life. Although realizing what he had just created Victor is repulsed by this new being and calls him a Monster.
Wilson describes the twenty-year long process where scientists seek to break open the force field of the artifact and learn of its true nature and reason for its location. When everything fails, they use their last plan of attack which is bombarding it with nukes until only dust remains. Wilson provides his own interpretation of the importance of the pyramid. He thinks that the sentinel is one of many placed throughout space by an extremely technologically advanced race in order to keep tabs on the evolution of other aliens.
Victor Frankenstein’s outward appearance was nothing like his internal reality. As becoming a scientist, manufacturing the monster , and even the consequences that were bestowed upon Frankenstein were all examples of false appearance versus reality. For example, when Victor was creating his monster, he thought the monster was going to be beautiful and pleasant “trophy” of his. Instead, the monster was grotesque, hideous, and was much more of a horrifying creature to society. Instead of hiding his problems for society, he should have told some one of his potential problem.
Like the great space epics of the past, Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” gives the viewer a taste of how the futuristic life here on Earth can challenge human existence. The True Monster Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by the English author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley that tells the story of a young science student Victor Frankenstein, who creates a sentient but grotesque creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. What amazed me the most is the fact that Mary Shelley wrote this book when she was 18. In this paper, I want to critically argue and demonstrate who the real monster is; Victor Frankenstein or the creature. I believe the real monster is Victor Frankenstein and I will provide my reasons through textual and critical evidence. First, I will analyze Victor Frankenstein’s behavior from the time he created the creature.
