I have previously taught students with autism and have used visual schedules and social stories before, with a degree of success. I have also adapted visual supports to include the targeted student directly in the images. I can honestly state with confidence, that by doing so, engagement in the visual schedule increased. I think the main reason for this on reflection was the schedule became more relevant and pertinent to the student at the time. I am an advocate of such supports and will continue to utilize them in my future classroom, regardless of whether I have a student who has autism or not.

1.1 Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role. Duty of care means to have a legal responsibility towards others. It is a legal requirement that all health care workers must put the interest of their service users first and make sure that the service users do not come to any harm be it abuse or self-harm. As a care giver, my duty is to provide care according to the organisation’s code of practice in my day to day work, to make sure that my service users are supported and treated with dignity and respect by following the policies and procedures set out by my employer, it is my duty of care to involve service user in their care unless it is not possible for them to be involved. Communicable diseases – During clinical rotation and medical school, learned about the communicable diseases (eg. Tuberculosis) and their treatment. At University of Illinois at Chicago, took infectious disease epidemiology course and learned more about Hepatitis B & C, HIV history, its spread and control measures.
