The “Ethics of Living Jim Crow” are pretty much ways that African Americans should act around white people. Through this writing, it seems like the main character was always supposed to follow the “Ethics of Living Jim Crow.” As he was going through his multiple jobs, he encountered many different “rules” that he should follow when around white people. One was that he should never fight or have a war with white people. His mother gave him discipline because he tried fighting off white children, but his mother said that he should never do that because she works at home trying to make him safe. Another ethic was that African Americans should always remember who they are talking to and who they are addressing, more specifically how they are talking
Jim Crow was not a person, it was a series of laws that imposed legal segregation between white Americans and African Americans in the American South. It promoting the status “Separate but Equal”, but for the African American community that was not the case. African Americans were continuously ridiculed, and were treated as inferiors. Although slavery was abolished in 1865, the legal segregation of white Americans and African Americans was still a continuing controversial subject and was extended for almost a hundred years (abolished in 1964). The Jim Crow Laws were used for ignorant thing such as segregation the reason why the jim crow laws were made is because after slavery the white folks didn't want the black folks to have to same opportunities the white folks did. Example the children of the african american descent were not allowed the same education the the white folks did or buses the bus waiting rooms were segregated. In “The Ethics of Living Jim Crow,” Richard Wright, speaks of his own experiences growing up in the half century after slavery ended, and how the Jim Crow laws had an effect on them. Wright’s experiences support the idea that a black person could not live a life relatively free of conflict even if they adhered to the ethics of Jim Crow. The first experience that Wright describes came when he was only a young boy living in Arkansas. He and his friends had been throwing cinder blocks and they found themselves in a ‘war’ against a group of white boys.

As current time and social status are being challenged and pushed, the Jim Crow Laws were implemented. These state and local laws were just legislated this year, 1877. New implemented laws mandate segregation in all public facilities, with a “separate but equal” status for African Americans. This may lead to treatment and accommodations that are inferior to those provided to white Americans, systematizing a number of economic, educational, and social disadvantages.
Peaceful disobedience had been a key point within the civil rights era, famous examples include Rosa Parks not giving her spot to a white man on the bus, MLK standing up with his fellow supporters for protesting racial discrimination. Their actions gained a national spotlight through the eyes of the masses, especially when the harsh actions of our civil servants (the police) were highlighted through spraying citizens with fire-hoses, beating them with batons, kicking people, etcetera. This spotlight had led a revolution to the end of Jim Crow laws and discrimination all together through ratifying (previous) laws. We as humans living in the 21st century see the laws which existed before the 1970’s discriminatory, but certain people didn’t have that mindset and seen laws as though they couldn’t have flaws within. That said - are we as humans living within 2017 going to view all laws which exist now as perfect?
Race is one the most sensitive and controversial topics of our time. As kids, we were taught that racism has gotten better as times has passed. However, the author, Michelle Alexander, of The New Jim Crow proposes the argument that racism has not gotten better, but the form of racism that we known in textbooks is not the racism we experience today. Michelle Alexander has countless amounts of plausible arguments, but she has failed to be a credible author, since she doesn’t give enough citations or evidence for her argument to convince people who may not have prior agreement with her agreement.. Alexander’s biggest mistake when it came to being a credible author was starting off the book with a countless number of claims without any evidence in her Introduction.
Early attempts to break Jim Crow: The Civil Rights Act of 1875, from Charles Sumner and Benjamin F. Butler, was that everybody it 's doesn 't matter which skin color, race, or previous condition of servitude had the same rule in public accommodations to eat at the same place, use public transportations, use theaters and more. But the law was not doing really well. In 1890 it was still not allowed to drive with the white skin people together but in New Orleans was is allowed. So he was one time in New Orleans.
In the eyes of Martin Luther King Jr., Justice within a society is achieved through the implementation of just laws. Furthermore, “just laws are regulations that have been created by man that follow the laws of God for man” (“Clergymen’s Letter”). Any law that does not correspond with the ideals of God and morality are considered to be unjust or a form of injustice. King identifies that injustice is clearly evident within the justice system. This injustice can truly be seen through the misconduct imposed toward the African American community.
5th Hour Cause and Effect Essay Jim Crow laws The Jim Crow laws were unfair and unjust to all African-Americans by making them unequal. The Jim Crow laws are laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. It used the term separate but equal, even though conditions for African Americans were always worst than their white counterparts. They could not eat at the same restaurant as white people, they could not used the same restrooms, and they couldn't even use the same drinking fountain.
The Jim Crow laws claimed to be “Separate but equal”, they were anything but. The laws separated the blacks from the whites. They had separate stores, schools, and even drinking fountains. The Jim Crow laws separated the blacks from the whites, made life harder for the blacks, and when they were separated their stores, restaurants, and other things were not equal.

Slavery is over therefore how can racism still exist? This has been a question posed countlessly in discussions about race. What has proven most difficult is adequately demonstrating how racism continues to thrive and how forms of oppression have manifested. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, argues that slavery has not vanished; it instead has taken new forms that allowed it to flourish in modern society. These forms include mass incarceration and perpetuation of racist policies and societal attitudes that are disguised as color-blindness that ultimately allow the system of oppression to continue.
The piece of writing which I felt was unsuccessful for me was the Rhetorical Analysis of an article relating to a topic from our course book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. This piece of writing was difficult for me to organize my ideas around. The article that I decided to use for my rhetorical analysis highlighted mass incarceration among African American and the effect of civil liberties being are taken away from these individuals. I had a lot of repetition because many of the examples I used demonstrated more than one type of appeal. I found myself repeating what the purpose of the example was and how it demonstrated proper use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
