Ethos, pathos, and logos are the three argumentative appeals. During my years in college, I have been required to write an argumentative paper. Before starting my paper, I had to decide which argumentative appeal I would use. I always ended up using logos, and that’s why I believe that logos are the most useful appeal for an academic argument. Logos are sometimes referred to as logical appeals. This means that I would need to find a logical reason to support my claims. I believe that logos are most useful in academic writing because you can use quotations and statistics to support your claims. For example, if I were required to write an essay on why the legal drinking age should be lowered in South Carolina, I could use statistics that would help support my claim. College writing is supposed to help develop your skills and prepare you for a future career. In all jobs, you will have to use some type of reasoning to complete a task. I know that using logos as an argumentative appeal will help sharpen my reasoning skills for the future. However, this could be a drawback because everyone does not have the same reasoning skills. If I’m on a job that requires me to work with a partner, we may not be able to reason if we have a disagreement on how the job should be completed. This could cause an issue if the job doesn’t get
Year after year, America has been singled out for its deteriorating educational system. Fridman suggests in his passage that this is due to the attitude of anti-intellectualism plaguing American society. Fridman decides to use ethos and logos as his rhetorical strategies in his essay. Ethos convinces someone of the character or credibility of the persuader. Logos appeals to an audience by using logic and reason.
To begin, Schlack supports his points by using ethos, pathos and logos throughout the article. Having used ethos, pathos and logos Schlack persuades readers that his points are responsible. Lawrence B. Schlack uses Ethos when starting a quote from a middle school student, “College is like your life. If you don’t go to college… you can’t live a successful life.” ( paragraph 16)
When I write, I try to put myself in someone else’s shoe. I imagine how they would feel, think, and behave in response to my writing. I try not to be biased in any way. Most of the time I would directly state what I am trying to prove. A good writer uses logos, ethos, and pathos, but also influences their audience in a new way.
Rhetorical Appeals The three elements of rhetorical appeals were analyzed in Po Bronson’s article “Learning to Lie,” published February 10, 2008. In the article, Po Bronson uses rhetorical devices to persuade the reader that a reasonable one-third of teens lie to their parents. Bronson discusses about young kids learning to lie and what their causes may be. To better convey his points to the reader, Bronson uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is trying to convincing the audience and a persuader by trying to achieve credibility.

On example of Sanders supporting his argument with this appeal is when he cites statistics. In chapter 4, Sanders notes after asking his students how many of their peers cheated it was between 70-90 percent. These numbers create a concrete image in the reader's mind appealing to their logical side that this is the vast majority of his students.
