A graphic advertisement from the Red Cross has a picture of a coffin in a graveyard with a statue of an angel trying to revive that person. The majority of color that is used in this ad is gray and dark grey, which emphasize the emotions of death and grief. Beside the angel’s head is brighter color that has a combination of yellow and orange; the mix of yellow and orange emphasizes life and happiness. Near the bottom of the graphic is text that is bold and in a type of Sans font that shows that the text is clean, concise, and grabs the audience's eye. The text says “Help before it’s too late,” and beneath that in the same font but in different size is: “Attend first aid training,” which tells the audience how to help. The Red Cross logo is globally known for their services to help people during huge crises and to save many lives. When people see the Red Cross logo on the ad, people trust that the Red Cross organization has supreme credibility because they’ve built their credibility for many decades. Pathos plays a great part in this graphic ad by showing an image of a coffin and a statue of an angel in the colors of grey and dark grey. Most of the images and colors used in this graphic is portrayed to be depressing, dark, as well as death. When people think of death, it is something to be feared and sympathetic towards, especially if a friend or a family member has died. Though most of the image consists of darkness, there is a little bit of light contrasting from the dark. The light colors in the background gives some happiness as well as giving an image of life. Logos also plays a great part in the advertisement by showing the statue of an angel giving CPR to the grave. The angel is representing the texts: “Help before it’s too late,” and “Attend first aid training.” The overall image that an audience gets from the angel giving CPR to the grave, is that it’s too late because the person in the coffin has already died. Those in the audience who are passionate about saving live will take this image to heart. The image that is presented would inspire others to become involved in helping save lives as
This presents a fallacious appeal to authority. The viewer automatically assumes the U.S. military is linked with this program because silhouette logo portrays one soldier helping another, and the image represents the military’s value of “no man left behind.” The advertisement’s use of ethos is meant to be effective because the audience perceives the United States military as a large, authoritative force. The viewers respect the military’s values and its seal of approval because the armed forces fight and protect the audience. Additionally, the connection to the military gives the illusion that the armed forces support the Wounded Warrior Project; however, the United States military is an expert during combat and has no authority for the treatment of seriously injured veterans.

As I was admiring all the art works displayed in the Telfair Academy of Art and Science, one of them caught my attention, Relics of the Brave by Arthur Hacker painted 1882-1883. This is an oil painting on canvas. Its dimensions are 59 ¼” x 83”. The work depicts a sorrowful young woman sitting down on a small round table, with her right hand on the side of her head, and a letter on the other hand. On the table is one medal.
Advertisements are set up to do one thing and one thing only, get the audience to love the product. Advertising producers must take a lot into consideration when creating the ads. Producers think about what colors, fonts and sizing to use when creating an ad. An ad for Jose Cuervo is set up for an audience of age 18 and above, considering this is the drinking age in Mexico. The purpose is to get people to see how amazing the product is and go out and buy it, so the producer can get a profit.
World Vision is similar in the way that bold text is used, however because it is a video, emotive music has been used to contrast with the scenes. Through looking at conventions it is evident that World Vision uses conventions at a more superior standard when compared against The Salvation Army through the emotive and visual

The image uses symbolism and fear tactics to send the message that peace will always prevail in the face of conflict. Within the frame of the photo can be seen a vast blue wasteland, devoid of plant life and bright color. However, in the center is an unscathed piano being played by a serviceman. The soldier is has a gun strapped to his back, yet seems intent only on playing. The piano represents peace as something immortal that can never be broken down, no matter how the world crumbles around it.

The majority of people would agree that they have felt discouraged from achieving a goal of theirs at one point in their life. In, "Impossible Stairs", a commercial run by Nike, the marketers working for Nike make it a point to ensure their audience that adversity can be easily overcome, with the help of their product, of course. In this case, the audience Nike addresses is women who enjoy staying active. Through this advertisement, Nike effectively utilizes logos, pathos, and ethos in order persuade their audience into buying their new Air VaporMax sneakers.
The automotive industry uses advertisements and hundreds of types of persuasive techniques to sell you their vehicles. In the Ford advertisement that I chose, a large red truck is driving down the road during a rain storm. The words “It’s simple. BURN LESS FUEL. Burn less cash.”
Nick Koeberle Prof. Presto ENGL101-06 English Composition I 23 March 2023 How the ASPCA is Successful in Using Pathos The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a well-known animal welfare organization that has effectively used pathos to persuade viewers and even put blame on the viewer of why animal abuse is still around making them donate money to their cause. Pathos is an appeal to emotions, and the ASPCA commercials have utilized this strategy to evoke strong feelings of sadness, guilt, and empathy in their audience. One of the most famous ASPCA commercials is the "Sarah McLachlan" ad that features the song "Angel" playing in the background while images of abused and neglected animals are shown.
Good morning/afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for joining me at the State Library of Queensland. It is an honour to be able to speak to all of you about the importance of visual literacy and how much time and effort actually goes into making picture books. Today, I will be talking about a picture book called ‘Stolen Girl' by Trina Saffioti. It is a book about the period in history known as the ‘stolen generation' and it illustrates the story of an Aboriginal girl taken from her family and sent to a children's home.
At a first glance of the picture, it looks like any other day of a family ordering some lunch at a diner. However, the two signs that say “white” and “colored” each at a different ordering window gives the otherwise normal picture a disturbing vibe. The picture invokes feelings of helplessness and depression, which are strengthened by the way the photographer took the picture. Visual analysis helps people to look at a photo and see how the photographer conveyed the significance of the image. Elements such content, framing, composition, focus, color, lighting, and context are helpful in analyzing pictures and figuring out what kind of message the photographer is trying to convey.
