We have always believed that first people that came to the Americas came acrossed the land bridge. It has now been proven that people may have come across the land bridge, but other people were already in America when this happened. In 2008, Eva de Naharon was the oldest skeleton that researchers had ever found. Her body was found in an underwater cave in the Yucatan peninsula. At the time of Eva’s death she was buried in a cave that was dry back then, but now it is completely underwater. One of the researchers, Gonzales, also described that they found 8 other skeletons buried in the same area as Eva. Eva’s bones have been dated as being 13.5 thousand years old. Researchers believe that this cave that Eva’s bones were found in was a grave place …show more content…
They are guessing that they followed the coast of land and the kelp highway. This highway of kelp would insure that the people would have plenty of food along their journey. It would make sense to take a boat because it is quicker and easier than walking by foot. We are uncertain about this though because all evidence has been washed away by the rising seas. Thanks to this new technology scientists have also been able to prove ancestry of the Kennewick man. The bones of the Kennewick man dates back to 18 thousand years old. This man’s skeleton is the most complete skeleton researchers have found in North America. Scientist think that this skeleton is too important and should not be given back to the Native American tribe. Scientist’s have taken so much data about his skeleton that it took 9 years to publish it all.
A Native American tribe has thought that he is the oldest ancestor of their tribe. It is a very important thing in their culture to bury someone in a ceremony to leave their body their till the end of time. Researchers believe that this man is not Native American because of different features they noticed in the skull. They ran DNA testing on part of the bone of the Kennewick man to clear the confusion up. When the results came back they found that the Kennewick man is closer related to Native Americans than any other group in the
They were worried about the tide the last night they slept so they brought the canoe way up. Once they get to the York, the tide is pushing them back towards the wilderness, which would seem like the wilderness does not
In the article “Ancestry in a drop of Blood” by Karen Kaplan points out factors that relate to individuals with Indian descents. Marilyn Vann, who is an engineer from Oklahoma city was rejected by tribal officials who arguably claimed that Vann is black, not Indian. On the other hand, Marilyn Vann indicates that she has credible evidence from her birth certificates, tribal enrollment cards, land deeds, affidavits, yellowing photographs that document her family 's life within the tribe. After being rejected by tribe officials, Vann turned to DNA testing, which is a technology that is agitating Indian tribes all around the United States. From California to Connecticut, tribes and potential tribe members are dealing with the development of technology

A three months pregnant teenager was declared dead after her mysterious collapse at her home in Honduras. Her family members called a priest believing she was possessed by an evil spirit when they saw the teenager fell unconscious and foaming at her mouth. Relatives of Neysi Perez, 16, said that the teenager woke up in the night to use the toilet when they saw her passed out after hearing a gunfire outside. They recall that the priest who came tried to exorcise Perez but became unresponsive. They rushed the teenager to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead by the doctors three hours later.
The article on CNN, “Police: Remains Found under a Bridge Likely Student Who Vanished in 1998”, starts off with explaining how Robert Kovack had gone missing in 1998 on his way to his parent house in West Virginia. Eighteen Years later there was a body found under the New River Grove Bridge. Turns out there was a wallet and identification confirming that the bones of the body was in fact Kovack. The case has now been reopened and tests are going to be done to figure out what was the cause of death.
The group of men set out from St. Louis, Missouri in May of 1804 in search of a water passage to the west coast. These men traveled by boat, foot, and horseback across the unknown lands and encountered many new things. They were helped by the Native peoples, and often traded goods and supplies with them. Along the way Lewis and Clark encountered the
The first chapter of both APeople’s History of the United States (Zinn, 1980) andA Patriot’s History of the United States(Schweikart and Allen, 2004) tells the story of the discovery of the New World. Beginning with the landing of Columbus in the Bahamas, these accounts are told from two separate perspectives. Zinn often refers to the telling of history as a tale between victims and executioners, saying that in the “inevitable taking of sides which comes from selection and emphasis in History” he prefers to stand on the side of the victim, whereas Schweikart and Allen tend to stand behind the executioner. Much of APatriot’s Historyis spent arguing the accuracy of the number of natives murdered by invading European entities, attempting to minimize the blame reflected on these executioners.
Dolores Huerta was born in the early 30’s to her compassionate mother, Alicia, who helped low-wage workers by accommodating them at her hotel for free. Alicia, a role model to her daughter, inspired Dolores to help others as well. Despite excelling in school and extracurricular activities, Dolores faced racism in her Californian school, and was once even accused of plagiarism by a teacher who believed Dolores was incapable because she was Hispanic. As stated by the writers of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, she began a career as a teacher which was soon cut short because she could not bear seeing children in terrible economic conditions on a daily basis. Angered, she began a life of activism. ("Dolores Huerta.")
In May of 1991, a three hundred year silence was shattered with the discovery of the African Burial Ground in lower Manhattan. Widely acknowledged as one of the most significant American archeological finds of the twentieth century. Prior to the 1991 discovery, plans to erect a 34-story, $276-million federal building required that a cultural resource survey, including archeological field-testing, be completed. Under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, such research is required on any project using public funds that may have the potential to impact historic resources. During the last days of the excavation, the archaeological team discovered a missing chapter of New York history¿the
When I picked this person I asked myself two essential questions, Who is this person and why is she important to history ? I believe Hermine Santrouschitz aka Miep Gies is important to history because she helped hide the Franks and other families . I mean if you think about it without her we wouldn’t have read about “The Diary of Anne Frank” because it wouldn’t have existed . Meaning if she wouldn’t have hid the Franks Anne and her family would have just been sent straight to a concentration camp right away and they all would have probably died right when they got there .
Christopher Columbus or Native Americans We have been taught the same concept of the discovery of America for hundreds of years. Christopher Columbus discovered America and we celebrate Columbus Day every year to honor his bravery and strength, but every story has two sides. Native Americans who have been settled in the “New World” long before Columbus stumbled onto the land, aren’t given the recognition they deserve.

There are many theories how a man found in the alps covered in ice died. Later this man was named Ötzi or the iceman. When Ötzi was found he had many tools /weapons with him. He had a copper axe, threaded mushrooms, a fanny pack with multiple items in it, and and much more. His items were spared away from him and later on when scientist examined him, his skin was like a mummy.
The most compelling theory is that Ötzi was assassinated for his high position of power with in his clan. After thorough investigation of the site where Ötzi was discovered (Ötztal Alps) and analysis of the corps historians can infer that the most compelling theory for the death of the iceman is that he was assassinated as part of a power play with in his own clan. This theory is supported by many pieces of evidence. One of these is, the finding of a copper axe near the iceman’s death site and suggesting that the iceman was quite powerful with in his clan. Another supporting piece of evidence is the fact that the arrow was taken out of the iceman’s back, this supports the theory that his attacker did not want to be identified and the fact that
We all learned at school that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. Columbus takes a glorious position in America history; we’ve named places after him, made countless movies and books of him, and even have statues of him. But there’s a slight problem here: Columbus did not actually discover America. That’s right. He never set foot in North America.
