World War II was a tragic event that affected many people, and countries. Many people that were Jewish were tortured and broken down in horrible ways during this time. WWII consisted of Adolf Hitler gaining power, and taking jews away from their families and taken to death camps. Eva is a holocaust survivor that has told her story about her and her twin sister. Eva describes her experience as “Hell on Earth.” She did not want to live, but she did not want to die either. Eva says “My diseased organs and Miriam was the control. I spoiled the experiment” (NPR Staff). Many doctors were waiting and expecting Eva to die. She says her experience was unimaginable unbearing (Schwab). Eva and her sister were taken from her parents. They Measured the kids for several hours comparing them to charts. Eva also said she had to give blood supplements every other day (Schwan). The doctors had injected them three times a week. One time after an injection Eva hot terribly sick. The doctors told her she had two weeks to live (“Holocaust Twins Survival Story”). Some of the experiments included being gassed when they got to the death camps. Dr.Mengele would inject needles with chemicals into the eyes of the twins to try and change their eye color. He would do surgical operations without amnesia, Transfusions of blood from one twin to the other, put them in isolation, see how they would react to stimuli, inject the with lethal Bacteria, operate sex changes, and remove limbs from organs (Bulow). Dr, Mengele drugged the children to see the effects. He also poisoned them. He would use one as the test subject, and the other twin as the controlled in the experiments (“Holocaust Twins Survival Story”). Although they did these horrible things to her she forgave …show more content…
The guard had been tried for 300,000 counts of accessory murder. He used to call her a “dirty Jew” yet she still forgave him (NPR Staff). She forgave the people, because “I believe forgiveness is such a powerful thing. It is free. It works. It has no side effects. And this is what our world desperately needs besides punishment.” She even gave a former SS officer known as “bookkeeper of Auschwitz” a hug. She said that forgiving and hugging other officers releases anger and makes her feel good about herself (Stanton). Eva had trouble forgiving one person after WWII. Eva said “If anybody ask me is if I was angry with God, I was angry with everything of God, the world, and everybody” (“Holocaust Twins Survival Story”). As they got older both her and her sister suffered many health problems. Eva herself had tuberculosis, and many miscarriages, and then her son had been diagnosed with cancer. Her sister also had a very rare form of cancer soon after she died in 1993 because of it. Miriam never had fully developed kidneys, because of the experiments, yet they still forgave every single person that hurt them
Eva’s fear of stealing the potatoes didn’t stop her from taking them to keep her and her sister alive. Eva’s fear of Doctor Mengele didn’t stop her from surviving the disease she was injected with. When she was supposed to die she didn’t, she persisted through all of the horrors she faced and continued to do so when the Nazi left Auschwitz. Upon their return they shot machine guns into the crowd she was in but she woke up and got back to her sister (pg 80-81).
World War II, the second war Hitler was vanquished in but different battles. WWII Hitler decided to kill off all Jewish people, he wanted to wipe out their whole existence. But from all of this destruction came forth a man who was to tell their story, a boy who lost everything to a man who wanted Jewish people dead. Elie Wiesel, was the boy that was there from the start of this war against genocide. Elie have consequently written the book “Night” which tells his tale of the war moreover his survival.
The Holocaust is a genocide that killed about six million Jews that started in January 1933 and lasted until May 1945. Many families were taken from their homes and put on cattle wagons, they were brought to various concentration camps like Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Buna. In the memoir, Night Elie Wiesel’s family is taken out of Sighet for a year and a half, with the struggle of living each day but luckily he survived. All were put through harsh conditions like being starved for days by not receiving all rations of the meals and only given a small portion of bread and soup. At these camps everyone was forced to march, if you fell behind or got weak you would be beaten or killed.
The Holocaust was when the Nazis murdered 11,000,000 people. One of the most famous holocaust survivors was Elie Wiesel. He wrote a memoir Night. Some of the terrible things that happened to Elie included beating, starvation, and forced marches. This kind of trauma changes a person.
Once they died some organs, eyes, blood samples, and tissue would be further studied. The twins that did survive then went through the end of Nazi concentration
Nazi soldiers banged on the two sisters’ door, pointed guns at their head and made them walk for miles before they even reached a truck depot just to be loaded up like cattle along with thousands of other Jewish people and their families to be taken to a Paris sports stadium. Cecile recalled them being without food and water for several days and the horrific smell that lingered through the stadium. You may ask how Cecile escaped and lives to tell the story. Two days after Cecile and her family arrived at the stadium they were allowed to leave and go to a French hospital with their mother who was ill with tuberculosis, t hat was also the last time Cecile, her sister and mother saw her father and older sister. While waiting at the hospital, Cecile and her sister talked a French guard into letting them leave the hospital.
The girl risked her life for him. She helped him after getting beaten by Idek, she cleaned him up and fed him. How the Germans would treat the victims was awful. It's sad how the Jewish had to go through so much just because of their
It is estimated that 1.1 million jewish people were brought to Auschwitz and only around 200,000 came out alive. Two of those survivors were Vladek Spiegelman and Elie Wiesel who both have told their stories of being at Auschwitz to the world through books. Vladek’s son wrote about his life in a graphic novel called Maus and Elie Wiesel wrote his own book called Night. Another holocaust story that has some similarities to the books but also is very different since it’s fictional is the famous movie Life is Beautiful who’s main characters are Guido and Joshua.
The author of this story is Elie Wiesel a survivor from the holocaust this very brave man is receiving the Nobel peace prize for not only surviving but also speaking out loud a lot of people don’t speak out or even remember the holocaust even happened. But Mr. Elie Wiesel is the brave voice to speak up for the fallen and living. He wrote his novel for the remembrance of the holocaust he was not able to stand up to the Nazis back then but now that it is over and is alive and well he stood up to them people think it doesn’t matter since it happened but it is a real big deal because lots of people forgot or just don’t care but he made sure his voice was heard over the other survivors who made it through the holocaust which was a good move he did
Just like Miep Gies she was helping Anne Frank's family and another in a small home, and they didn't have a lot of food. Her and her husband risked their lives for these Jews. In fact, rescuers risked their lives to save many Jews from the Nazis, knowing that if they were found they would get killed. During the Holocaust there were people who risked their lives to save another Jew's life.
During their time at Auschwitz, Eva and Miriam were put through many extremely harsh surgeries and experiments. Josef Mengele did many medical experiments at Auschwitz using twins. He did experiments without using anesthesia, and performed transfusions of blood to one twin to another. Mengele would also make injections with lethal germs, do sex change operations, and even removed organs and limbs of some helpless twins. The children that were as old as five and six years were usually murdered after the experiment was over.
Elie Wiesel The holocaust, killed more than 6 million Jewish people just for being Jewish. Elie Wiesel was one of the lucky few to survive the holocaust. I’m going to explain what His life was like as a child, what his life was like as he was in the death camps, and what his life was like after the war was over and he was free again. Elie Wiesel became famous for writing about his experiences in the death camps.
Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind.
These survivors who experienced this event, have been scarred for the rest of their life. We can listen to their stories but we can’t imagine and experienced what they have gone through. For example, Szymon Binke, Hilma Geffen, and Baker Ella, were the survivors of the Holocaust. Szymon Binke was born in 1931 in Poland, his family moved to the city after the Nazi’s invasion. Nazis deported his family to Auschwitz where his mother and sister were gassed, while, Szymon was placed in Kinder block but after sometime he ran away to meet his family in Auschwitz.
Does humanity exist in times of tragedy? This is a question asked by many people. To find the answer, history must be looked at and closely examined. First off, what is humanity? Well, the definition of humanity is humanness, or benevolence.
