Nurses have to work with the health care team to develop and implement the best-individualized, evidenced-based plan of care for the patient. Nursing practice is informed and modified in response to systematic evidence based decision making. Nurses use research to provide evidence-based care that promotes quality health outcomes for individuals, families, communities and health care systems as well as to shape health policy in direct care, within an organization, and at the local, state and federal levels (Quigley, 2017). Nurses communicate to patients to help them with their needs including physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual. They communicate with the client, support persons, other health professionals, and people in the community.

Evidence-based practice is made up of three principles. The first consists of well-researched evidence on why a specific(s) treatment would work for a client. The second part is expressed as clinical experience and ethics in order to distinguish a client’s needs. Lastly, the third principle pertains to the client’s wants and preferences when it comes to providing treatment and services. This practice involves participation from all parties involved, which are, the client, researcher, and also the practitioner.

It’s important to use evidence based practices in nursing because it creates solutions to the patient’s needs, it improves the overall care of the patients, reduces harm and helps support nurse’s actions and clinical judgments. Evidence based practices are important because it aims to provide the most effective care that is available, with the aim of improving patient outcomes. Patients expect to receive the most effective care based on the best available evidence. Evidence is the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. Evidence based practice is the integration of clinical expertise, patient values, and the best research evidence into the decision-making process for patient care. In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).

The complexity of our population and the evolution of our health care system have forced the implementation of changes to the nursing profession. Even though the main function of the nurse as educator has not changed, the way that nurses and health professionals provide care to patients, families and communities has changed over time and it will continues to change as we facing new challenges (Grand Canyon University, 2011) . Health promotion education and preventing care is the future of nursing. Evidence-based practice (EBP) and technology evolution will be the tools that will allow nurses and providers to adjust to the new challenges and to be able to deliver effective and outstanding care to our better educated and more demanding population.

The JHNEBP is made of up of 3 components of nursing. These components consist of practice, evidence, and translation. JHNEBP model also has internal and external factors that need to be considered before change can be implemented. During the practice stage/question stage a question is refined in answerable terms.

The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. I like the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model, because it is a powerful problem-solving approach to clinical decision-making, and it has user-friendly tools to guide. According to Zaccagnini & White, “it is designed specifically to meet the needs of the practicing nurse and uses a three-step process called PET: practice question, evidence, and translation” (2015). The goal of this model is to ensure that the latest research findings and best practices are quickly and appropriately incorporated into patient care. Great choice!
