1. When I am trying to get ideas together for writing a paper, it all depends on the type of paper it is. If it’s a narrative paper, I will just sit down and start writing because there really isn’t anything to research. If it is a more complex paper, then I tend to look up some more information about the topic to learn more about what I am about to write. I don’t have a lot of examples in my portfolio contributing to how I gather up ideas for my paper. I tend to just sit down and open up my laptop and let the thoughts come to me. The only examples I have in my portfolio is the free write that we did the first week of class. That was the only brainstorming that I did about the topic.
2. The audience for the narrative paper was my classmates and my professor. The audience made my writing a bit more complex. The content was more descriptive to help my professor and classmates better understand my writing process. The little details that I do throughout my process of writing was included to help my audience understand my writing process thoroughly. I added smaller details about my writing process to help my classmates better understand how I go about writing papers. So then maybe they could take some of my things I do and

English 104 is a fun class because the professor makes it entertaining and not so boring to learn about the writing process. I enjoy the group discussions that we have in class. I also appreciate how the professor doesn’t force anyone to share their free writes to the class. I don’t like my writing enough to share to the whole class. In my opinion, I think I am a horrible writer so I am very self-conscious about it. When I read through my writings, I feel like a five-year-old wrote the paper, that’s how bad my writing is. I don’t really use a lot of complex words in my writing like I should, especially now that I am writing at a college level. Writing is just difficult for me to do in general. I think my writing has a lot of room for
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
My choice in words always tend to make my assignments sound unripe. I agree in my past that i have been lazy when writing and reading that was before i realized my child like writing would not get me far in ninth grade. All of This has lead me to receving grades that i knew i could do much better than. Constantly being discouraged about my grades in english, I
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
I then look up a few scholarly sources to see if I can find enough evidence to back up my ideas. If I find enough sources, I then proceed to write a rough draft. I continue to look at scholarly sources to ensure that I have enough evidence to support my ideas. I reread my rough draft and typically have somebody who is knowledge able in the area (classmate, friend, coworker) to proof read my
Like I said writing was hard for me. I think the reason being that I was able to read well so I didn 't have much to write about other than the stuff I heard. Even then, If I did write was wasn 't going to be able to read it. Now that I could do both better my doors have open
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
Over the this past semester in freshman composition I have learned how to write a college level paper. Going into this class, I was a little unsure and scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do the things that were required for me to do. As the semester passed I could definitely see a change in my writing. I learned how to use the appropriate punctuation, how to write and refute an argumentation paper, which I believe is my strongest piece of writing and how to research and gather information to write a strong research paper. I knew coming into this class that I was going to struggle with my punctuations, word choice, and the overall flow of the paper.
My Writing Struggles After taking AP English III, I became better at organizing my papers, but realizing I need to improve my grammar skills and staying focused on my supporting points. All throughout my writing career, I was always thought to be an outstanding writer, especially using vocabulary above my grade range. Naturally, I would see myself as an excellent writer as well until I took Mrs. Bingham’s AP English II course. Mrs. Bingham always gave pointers, tips, and work to improve my class’s writing skills as a whole.
I believe that through this past semester, my writing knowledge, and writing ability has grown significantly. I hope to continue growing my knowledge about writing throughout the rest of my days in school and the rest of my
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Thank you for giving me this chance to talk about my English class, it was very excited to be a part of English 101 this quarter. We act as a family in this class by helping each other in writing, discussions stories and responding to each other. To be honest, I worked very hard this quarter and I focused more on my English class rather than other classes I had taken in SFCC. Writing is something not easy when it comes to my mind, because I am an international student and it is a differencet from my writing style and English writing style, so I should separate between them. I would not say writing English assignment is very hard for me, but I mean I make some mistakes.
As I began the journey of returning to school, one of my biggest fears, was the writing aspect in the classes. The fear of reading and writing has never been a strong quality; however, I have never able to successfully be creative in the way I learn. I understand my weaknesses and when I need to focus on my strengths. I am constantly learning new ways, skills, and tools to utilize to continue to grow as a writer. Focusing on my strengths allows me to have the security that I can be a good writer.
Each essay I wrote took me several time to write, several drafts which show that I have improve every time I do the drafts to write a perfect masterpiece. I learned a lot of skills and techniques this quarter, which has helped me to improve and progress my writing skills for the future. I will remember the skills, techniques, and tips that professor gave us in this English class for my higher education. For example, all the time that I went to visit professor Sapozhnikov office hours to receive help on my out-of -class essays has helped me to improve, grow, and progress in my writing skills as a writer. Some of the significant changes I have made as I was progressing and growing were to develop a strong thesis to help support my claims as I write my essays, such as facts, observations, illustration, and examples.
Writing project 3 has shown me the importance of writing something that is of interest for you, an issue that you are passionate about. I think that I have started to get somewhat better at the structuring of my writing and using outlines before I jump into a draft. I am no longer as scared and hesitant to write, as I was the first writing project. I think a good goal that I accomplished from this project was using diverse sources in my writing. I was able to utilize a magazine post, newspaper article and research journals to form my argument and provide support.
