Nassar, a the previous sports physician, was sentenced in a Michigan court to 40 to 125 years in prison for accusations of sexual assault toward his patients at a gymnastics facility. This story really impacted me as my daughter loves gymnastics. This story is huge and was covered by many different networks. As I read online coverages of the story at sources such as The New York Times, CNN, NBC news, and FOX, I noticed how they are all covering the same stories but on their own Particular way. As I read the coverage from CNN, I noticed that the paper was bias against Nassar from the very beginning. The started the story with; “Once a world-renowned sports physician treating America's foremost Olympic women gymnasts, Larry Nassar now will spend the rest of his life behind bars”(CNN). The start of this story is telling the reader that this man is no longer world-renowed sport physician. They continue the story with “The disgraced former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor was sentenced” (CNN). This sentence shows bias against Nassar. The word of choice in this sentence humiliates Nassar presenting him as low and not worthy. They start the story presenting doctor Nassar with respect, “Lawrence G. Nassar, the former U.S.A. Gymnastics and Michigan State University sports medicine doctor, was sentenced in a Michigan court” They use his full name, and use words as former rather than disgraced. The New York Times also presents a human part of him that makes him seem less of a monster “Dr. Nassar, in a final statement, said that he was sorry, and that the words of the young women and parents “impacted me to my innermost core.” But he added that he knew “it pales in comparison to the pain, trauma and emotions that you all feel.” This statement help the viewer see that there is some kind of
