Himself is something shown through the determination of the climbers how they aren’t willing to give up on completing this dream. Scott Fischer, for example, had this sense of determination by never vocalizing his health issues. Jon Krakauer best describes this trait of Scott by saying “‘His will was astonishing. It didn’t matter how much pain he was in-he would ignore it and keep going.” (Krakauer 67) This characteristic of Scott would eventually lead to his death that fateful night. Doug Hansen was a mailman who had the dedication of seeing his dream fulfilled. Doug decided to try conquering Everest a second time, determined to reach the apex of the summit. Doug said to everyone including Jon Krakauer, “‘I’ve put too much of myself into this mountain to quit now, without giving it everything I’ve got.’” (Krakauer 73) Doug Hansen never stopped believing in his wildest dreams and kept going to reach the top of the summit by unfortunately dying up there due to the extreme storm. Jon Krakauer had this same will power of seeing this dream through and once at the top of the summit he says, “I had attained a goal I’d coveted since childhood.” (Krakauer 189) Jon is one of the lucky ones who actually made it to the top and back down to base camp. This determination helped get these brave climbers to the top of the summit to get a true sense of how powerful it’s to see a goal completed. Man vs. Himself was very apparent because everyone wanted to see themselves succeed by reaching the top of the summit even just for a

In the autobiography, Into Thin Air, eight climbers lost their lives trying to descend from the top of the world making this the second worse fatality rate ever to occur on Mount Everest. To be able to successively climb Mount Everest, clients must be intellectually competent, which is one of the pillars of the Grad at Grad. Being Intellectually Competent means that students go above and beyond the expectation both academically and in every day experiences, while taking the knowledge students learn in class and present it into the community. Jon Krakauer, the author, shows in his expedition multiple cases of him growing to be Intellectually
Mount Everest is known as the tallest point on Earth. It is a climb that every climber yearns for. In 1996, a group of experienced climbers attempted to climb Everest, ultimately ending with 8 people dead. This incident became known as the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster. Jon Krakauer, one of the survivors of this climb wrote the memoir, Into Thin Air, in which he expresses that life is unpredictable and that when feeling in doubt one should never give up.
It was 1996 when Jon Krakauer took a job from the magazine company, Outside, to report on mountain climbing expedition tours which had been raising speculation. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Knowing that any person in the world can climb Mount Everest is amazing. In the novel Into Thin Air written by Jon Krakauer, climbers climb to the highest point of the world. Some everyday people like Jon Krakauer, who is an author hired to write an article about Mount Everest for an adventure magazine and Doug Hansen who is a postal worker climbing Mount Everest for the second time.
Nature can be very powerful against humans. In situations when humans have to deal with nature, many natural calamities occur that may cause situations such as death, injury, or illness. Jon Krakauer, the author and protagonist of the book Into Thin Air, expresses the conflict of man vs. nature to support how the natural calamities while climbing and descending Mount Everest set his and everyone else's lives at risk. John Krakauer always had a dream of climbing Mount Everest since his father introduced mountain climbing to him at the age of eight. In the year 1996, Krakauer finally received the chance to climb Mount Everest along with other clients when Outside magazine sent him to Nepal to write about his expedition to the summit of the mountain.
The events that occurred on Everest during the famous 1996 expedition are recollected by Jon Krakauer through his memories and multiple interviews. Throughout his research, Krakauer was able to piece together everything that transpired during the deadly voyage. The book starts on the top of the world, Krakauer has just reached the peak of Everest and he is prepared to start back down. After the first chapter, Jon Krakauer starts to backtrack. "Into Thin Air" describes a suffering that results from the ambition to achieve an extreme challenge. While the mountain climbers mentioned in the account of Jon Krakauer's book had this special ambition, they lacked a sense of realism which ultimately ended in the demise during their journey to summit the top of Mount Everest. " Into Thin Air" conveys the dangers of perseverance through the guides' greed for the profit they are earning, the climbers' perilous drive to reach the summit under no matter what circumstance, and the effect of millionaire Dick Bass's achievement of climbing to the top of Mount Everest that left other amateur climbers with the idea that the goal of reaching the summit was easily attainable. The guides' perseverance
