Dear Admissions Committee,
I am writing to express my sincere interest in applying to the M.S. in Leadership and Administration with a concentration in Project Management program at the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College. With great enthusiasm, I present my personal statement, outlining my motivations and aspirations for pursuing this advanced degree at this particular juncture in my professional journey.
For over two decades I worked in the Credit and Collections field which called for an analytical and highly disciplined approach to decision-making and the ability to successfully negotiate the resolution of high-dollar disputes and reasons for the non-payment of balances by significant customers. I believe these skills apply to many disciplines but fit particularly well with human resources and employee relations. I enjoyed my work as a Credit and Collections Manager; during that time, I developed a passion for supporting and developing others to achieve their professional potential and successfully

Some HR managers are solely responsible for staffing; others concentrate on employee development, some deal strictly with compensation and benefits, and others—like me—do it all. For example, I oversee various projects related to talent acquisition, employee engagement, continuous improvement, and performance management. As a result, I have realized that effective leadership, administration, and project management skills are essential to succeed in today's competitive business environment. Leading people and managing projects requires unique skills, including leading and managing change, planning and executing projects, staying within a budget, and monitoring projects from start to finish while ensuring that they meet the desired goals and
My involvement with the Sherwood Community Association (SCA) has allowed me to develop upon this skill which will help me excel in the corporate environment, particularly ones with significant client contact. Furthermore, I have participated in the EY Leadership Program in which I worked with a team of students to analyze business cases and present solutions. This experience taught me how to think analytically, systematically about issues and communicate effectively in a public setting. Companies in the financial sector expect potential employees to be
My choice of a future in the Human Resources Industry came from my meticulous skills in organization and planning as well as my leadership abilities. I have devoted a large amount of my high school career practicing these traits as a Social officer of the Deer Park High School’s Deer Escorts. My course load, including three college-credited classes, and commanding role on my drill team has taught me the necessary characteristics of punctuality, self-discipline and notability needed to function not only in the continuation of education but also in my career path. Although I remain a high school student, I have acquired the feel of college and the essentials needed to be successful through the three dual-credit classes I have engaged in, in the duration of my junior and senior year of high school. I feel as though these classes differ from high school courses because they are more rigorous and require one to be self-disciplined and prompt with their
I choose to pursue a doctoral degree at Walden to further my knowledge in the business world (Beno, 2016). The pursuit of a doctoral degree would benefit my personal assessment, growth, and future business success (Basar, Altinay, Dagli, & Altinay, 2016). My Professional Development Plan will allow me to reach out and assist society with my business knowledge for change (Barker, 2014, p. 10).
In working to develop my abilities to become a human resources manager, I have learned human resource management plays an integral role in increasing the effectiveness of employees to attain the goals and objectives of an organization.
As I picture myself at graduation, I can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. The past two years as a Texas McCombs MBA student have been a transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally. I have worked hard to achieve my goals, and I am confident that I have made the most of my time at this prestigious program. When I first entered the program, my primary goal was to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed as a business leader. To achieve this, I focused on building a strong foundation in core business disciplines such as Strategy, Operations and Finance.
In conclusion, I am grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work with my
Therefore, developing my proficiency in these areas would help develop my leadership, management, and administration competency. Completing this program is a great way to develop in these areas because I am finding it really enlightening to engage with the perspectives from my peers and learn from their experiences that they share in discussions. Most of my classmates are further in their careers than myself, so their contributions allow me to consider higher education and leadership in a way that is different than what I am familiar with because I do not have much experience in roles where divisional strategy, organizational structures, or other “big picture thinking” items are
After graduating from my previous college, Raritan Valley Community College, which started the momentum of my career. There I would collaborate with my classmates and engage with fellow peers to work on film projects that further pushed me to improve my skills. However, my knowledge was limited and not as diversified as it could be. From understanding that predicament and how I knew my career will benefit from further continuing my education, it was a difficult decision to take some time off from school to pursue endeavors that would benefit me in areas I was insufficient in.
Throughout my life, I have always felt a call to serve others. Whether in an athletic setting, academic classroom, or one of my many other pursuits, I often find myself taking on a leadership role. No matter what setting might be, I call upon certain leadership traits that have helped me be successful thus far in life. As a leader, I set goals that benefit the group in the long run while insuring that each individual reaches their full potential in best serving the group. I do this by making sure each person knows that they can contribute something beneficial to the group and that all of these persons can help in a way that utilizes their own talents.
Lastly, working as a child care provider in a daycare setting improved my leadership skills and taught me the meaning of unconditional love. These past experiences have morphed me into the person I am today and enriched the lives of individuals I have encountered through serving others. I take pride in the way I handle myself in a professional work environment, and plan on giving my all to the Pathways to Healthcare

1.4.1 Literature Review HRM practices are a process of engaging, motivating, and maintaining employees to ensure the organizational survival (Schuler and Jackson, 1987).
