1. Individualism-collectivism
2. Power Distance
3. Uncertainty-avoidance
4. Masculinity-femininity
5. Confucian Dynamism/Long-term Orientation
Each measure is given a numerical value and in that way it is easy to compare countries together. This model by Geert Hofstede was made to analyze the cultural behavior in different countries. How cultural values can affect

The Impact of Culture and Gender Roles Heather Richardson-Barker Drexel University Society has clearly defined boundaries between what is considered to be male or female. The development of an individual’s gender role is formed by interactions with those in close proximity. Society constantly tells us how we should look, act and live based on gender, as well as the influence of family, friends and the media have a tremendous impact on how these roles are formed and the expected behavior of each gender role. The term Gender, as defined by the United Nations, includes the psychological, social, cultural, and behavioral characteristics associated with being female or male. It further defines acceptable
In a world that is so diverse, we get to interact with so many people from different cultural background. But, even though we have different family cultures, we adjust most of the time for work. Every workplace has their own culture of which we abide to provide for our families. Management creates their own values and practices for us to follow and anything outside of that is considered an objection which might be unethical and cause us our jobs. To function effectively as an organization, we all must work as a team.

It embodied the currently most honoured way of being a man, it required all other men to position themselves in relation to it and it ideologically legitimated the global subordination of women to men Connell considers that hegemony in gender as a system of relations and practices controlled and directed by a dominative and asymmetrically operating force. Hegemonic masculinity represents the ideal masculinity and the yardstick for gender practice. Hegemonic masculinity refers to a culturally normal and ideal male behaviour. The term hegemonic masculinity has roots in the assumptions that there is a hierarchy of masculine behaviour, suggesting it as a fact that most societies encourage men to exemplify a dominant versions of
There are cultural and geographical differences, both in relation to constructs of childhood and the perception of what are appropriate or acceptable practices. When it comes to content, and more specifically inappropriate content, a population of children is not homogenous. Each child is different, the difference is different ages, education, language, culture, religion, maturity, experiences, interests, etc. and also individual children change rapidly as they mature and develop. The determination of what content is appropriate for an individual child is best left as the responsibility of the parents, guardians and educators who know the child.

Some people like to aim for the best, but some people just want to be happy. Hofstede identified culture as Gender. In a culture where people always seek for an opportunity and aim for bigger and better goal, they tend to be very competitive and like to win. This culture Hofstede defined as Masculine. People who have very high masculine character are very assertive and confidence.
Up until now, I have had very little cross-cultural experience in the course of my life. Beginning with the fact that both of my parents are Dutch and the fact that I grew up here, made me a fully Dutch citizen, both in terms of origin and education. I am born and raised in a small village in the Netherlands, called Bodegraven. My parents have not provided me with a cross-cultural background as they both grew up on Dutch farms. However, they took me on holidays to several countries in Europe and to Canada and America once.
The four dimensions are uncertainty avoidance index (UAI), individualism-collectivism index (IDV), masculinity-femininity index (MAS) and power distance index (PDI). Description of power distance This report will only look into the power distance which can be describe as people who are related to specific cultures view on higher relationships as example superior and subordinate relationship ( Grimsley, 2015). A high power distance in culture can be seen if the PDI is between (70-100 on scale) and a low power distance between (0-40) (clearly cultural , 2015)
For example, consumers are becoming more similar in terms of lifestyles, income, aspirations and education. In order to clarify my statement, I would like to apply Hofstede’s dimensions of national culture. Masculinity and femininity is one of the Hofstede’s dimensions. The dominant values of masculine culture are achievement and success while dominant values in feminine cultures are caring for quality of life and others. The country that possesses the most masculine culture is Japan, which scores 95 (Geert and Mariake de, 2002).
However, it can be seen that the higher a country scores in Masculinity the higher is the gender gap in the society. For instance, In China and India this gender gap be easily seen. In these societies Men are more dominant. One can criticise the Hofstede research findings about the Masculinity and Femininity dimension as “the MAS scores are mainly based on men’s answers” (Hofstede G. , 1984).
