Culture is how a group of people live their lives that includes beliefs, values, behaviors, symbols, and traditions that are overall accepted subconsciously. Generations pass these things down through communication; it is usually learned or experienced. Values are a batch of rules in which anywhere from a single individual to a large community lives by. They are standards by which beliefs and attitudes form. They guide decisions and actions usually unconsciously, because they are learned as children. Acculturation is incorporating other cultures and beliefs throughout a person’s life span. It is basically adapting or changing beliefs, values, or behavior due to the experiences a person has in life. Stereotyping is assuming an individual is the exact same as the culture or race they are apart of. Ethnocentrism is a belief that ones culture is above everyone else’s. My fathers’ side of the family is very conservative and very religious, growing up as a preacher’s daughter meant that my entire childhood revolved around my families’ religion and therefore beliefs. My mom’s side is the complete opposite, which allowed me to see life from another point of view. I believe that now as an adult I am a good mix of both, which allows me to see that, as people, we all have different opinions and views and that I can relate to many of the different sides. The two sides of my family can agree on one thing and that is Mother Nature. We are very in love with nature and the world in which we live and that was handed down from generation to generation, a large majority of my ancestors, on each side, were Native American so we have learned through the years to love the earth we were given, take care of it, and to use it to grow our own
