The Three Houses in the Great Gatsby In the Great Gatsby there are three main characters that represent different characteristics, which is reflected on their houses. Nick is simple and observant. He lives next to Gatsby who is flashy and a superficial man. Then there's Nick’s cousin, Daisy and her husband Tom who live across the water from Gatsby and Nick. Daisy is cynical and superficial. Nick, Daisy’s cousin, lives next to Jay Gatsby in a small “weather beaten bungalow.” Nick’s house is set between two mansions, but yet it blends in perfectly, such as Nick. Nick is a quiet man because when he was invited to one of Gatsby's parties he barely spoke, he would simply listen to the other guests. He easily blends in at the parties. He also acts as the narrator and observes everything that revolves around him but Nick is never involved. Gatsby has a huge and ostentatious house. He chose this house because he centers his life around Daisy and is in love with her and has been for a long time. Every minute that passes, everyday that passes Gatsby tries his best to impress and catch Daisy’s attention because he wants to get closer to her. Gatsby does not really care for others, only for Daisy, and he is willing to do anything for her. Every night Gatsby watches the green light on Daisy’s dock. Gatsby has a connection with Nick, he uses Nick as a tool to get Daisy, for example he asked Nick to invite Daisy so they could have tea and Nick accepted without hesitation. Gatsby buys fancy clothes, and luxurious furniture to impress Daisy. He knows that Daisy loves all those amenities. Gatsby even throws big parties at his mansions because he hopes that Daisy will someday drop by. Gatsby is fancy, and rich and, that's how his house is
