This plays into the motif of lies/ illusion and the motif of materialism because Gatsby is creating an illusion by adding all this stuff into Nick’s home. It also provides an example of materialism because Gatsby thinks that Daisy wouldn’t enjoy the cottage otherwise, which makes her seem very materialistic, and Gatsby as well because it gives the implication that he thinks Nick’s home is inappropriate for other people to see, as well. These are not the only examples of these motifs in this book
Therefore, Gatsby thought that if Nick's house looked very good his house would look even better and make Daisy like it even more. Gatsby and his love for Daisy makes him nervous and has him doing crazy
Nick is Gatsby’s neighbor and Daisy’s cousin, and cautiously assists their relationship. Nick and Gatsby live in the West Egg area of Long Island, while Daisy lives across the way in East Egg. One late at night when Nick is admiring Gatsby’s house, Gatsby walks up on Nick surprising him while Nick says, “your house looks like the world’s fair” (Fitzgerald 81). Gatsby likes compliments like this because he knows if Nick likes his house than Daisy will too. When analyzing on what Gatsby talks about a lot he concludes that, “he talked a lot about the past and I gathered that he wanted to know something” (Fitzgerald 132).

Gatsby seems to be extremely wealthy and although he did not earn all of his money fairly he doesn’t care. He spends his fortune however he pleases.
