According to Baldwin (2003) health care disparities are the differences in health and health care between population groups including race, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability, and sexual orientation. Disparities limits the improvements of quality health care which could result in unnecessary health care expenses. Factors that are contributing to disparities within today’s society are lack of access to quality health care and the number of individuals who are uninsured. As the population continue to grow and become more diverse health care disparities will continue to increase. Patient centered care efforts will improve health care and will assist with eliminating disparities. Patient centered care will promote patient
autonomy and quality of care and what will it mean for our practitioners? The healthcare industry is preparing for many changes that have the potential to affect the industry on a large scale. While preparing for all of the current changes, the industry is also preparing itself to face the baby boomer generation, which will increase the number of society member who will be utilizing healthcare services. Healthcare, as an industry is facing a key time to make changes in order to protect its’ assets and the care given to those who utilizes our services. Funding is at a low, and resources have the potential to become scarce. Some patients are arguing that resources
In P5 of my work I am going to outline and discuss the strategies and procedures used in health and social care to reduce the risk of abuse. The aim of the independent safeguarding Authority (ISA) was established under the Safeguarding Groups Act 2006 to protect children and vulnerable adult to those who might abuse them. The strategy in order to achieve this is through mentoring people who seek access through their work, paid, unpaid and voluntary. As they have to be registered under the vetting and barring scheme and will be checked against one of two barred list.
The patients that visit the NHS or any other health organisation should be looked after with respect and dignity regardless of their race, gender and age. Respect is something we give to others. It’s the consideration that we show, to other individuals in every interaction between us and the patients, family and carers. It’s the idea that we ‘recognise
V in the acronym VIPS stands for a value base that promotes the absolute value of all human lives regardless of age or cognitive ability. I is for an individualised approach, which recognises a person’s individual needs. P stands for understanding the world from the perspective of the service user. S stands for providing a social environment that supports psychological needs. In comparison, the Health foundation (2014) has also identified four main principles of person-centred care, Affording people dignity, compassion and respect, Offering coordinated care, support or treatment, Offering personalised care, support or treatment, Supporting people to recognise and develop their own strengths and abilities to enable them to live an independent and fulfilling life. Both, Brooker’s and the health foundation’s principles emphasise the importance of valuing and treating patients with dignity while providing care, this is important as it empowers the patient and helps the health professionals see their patients as a person instead of their medical conditions only. Treating patients with dignity also corresponds with the set of values 6Cs (NHS 2013). The 6C’s are Care, compassion, commitment, competence, courage and communication. In particular dignity is related to providing care
All throughout my life I’ve been taught by my mentors that leadership is grown, cultivated, and earned. What organization embodies that the most other than the Marine Corps. In life you are always going to have leaders whether or not you are one or striving to be one. Leadership should be respected even if you dislike the one charge. All leaders no matter how great or revered make mistakes. As someone who strives to be a leader I strive to learn from not only my mistakes but also the mistakes of my leaders. I recently made a mistake I disrespected a leader in front of other leaders. Thus proving that no matter how much I thought of myself as a leader I am not yet a leader. The Marine Corps values rank structure
It is vital for health care providers to incorporate a person’s specific cultural elements to provide patients with the same ideal care that is provided to everyone (Kodjo, 2009). For example, many cultures have gender-specific views and those in that cultural group may desire care from a health care provider that is of the same gender as they are. Thus any future appointment with the patient in the primary care setting the health care providers would need to ensure the patient’s ideals are respected and the physician of the same gender is overseeing their care (Purnell, 2008). This should never be taken personally, but rather as step in the direction of providing the patient with the paramount
Medicine is a practice based on moral standards applied to clinical values and judgments, also known as medical ethics. Ethical values consists of beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy and justice. However, these ethical principles are affected when distributive justice and rationing of health care resources are implemented “…in a world in which need is boundless but resources are not…” (Scheunemann & White, 2011, p. 1630).
There are many healthcare disparities involving parasitic infection. One disparity, for example, is that any one can get parasitic infection, it is so easy to be infected by a parasitic infection. Also, to really prevent one from getting a parasitic infection, they would have to be extremely cautious on the food they are eating and the water they are drinking. It is more common in regions of tropical or subtropical to avoid getting infected. We can also get infected through our pets and the disparity in this is that its hard to keep up with everything to avoid getting infected with parasitic
There is a common phenomenon in the China that many people treated with inequality and injustice in health care. As as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s saying goes “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane”. From my point of view, i firmly agree with this point in that each individual has equal right to enjoy the suitable health care. It is intolerable for the whole society to make the health care injustice as a seriously public health problem. In this essay, some facts about the injustice will be given. Also, the solutions to deal with these problems will be provided so that this public health problem will be resolved in the future.
There is a controversial issue in regards to the violation of the HIPAA privacy rule concerning a client who was received at a small town hospital emergency rule. As a privacy officer, this issue has been bought to my attention. HIPPA violations are serious offenses, and ultimately, it is my responsibility to take corrective actions to resolve this matter upon this investigation.
I don’t normally drink, I had one to many beers and the women were both hitting on me.
women’s life experiences, care ethics start first with real people and an ethical comprehension, that when responding to the needs of others, that one is accountable. There is a difference between traditional theories, and care ethics because care ethics are in opposition to the assumption the greater good is a better position than focusing on individual needs, and that individuals should be treated as unique and not in generalizations, according to Buriner (2003).
Healthcare professionals mostly adopt patient rights, covering such matters as access to care, patient dignity, confidentiality, and consent to treatment.
My philosophy of nursing is a statement I will stand by as a nursing student and as a graduate nurse and will continue to incorporate it into my daily care. In my eyes, nursing is the ability to provide safe, holistic care to all people regardless of their age, race, gender, social status, or sexuality. Nursing is a profession in which it is essential to be caring and respectful of all patients in which they may be experiencing the most difficult health situations of their lives and to provide culturally safe care.
