Famous American writer Marsha Sinetar once said “Life’s up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want.” Marsha, as well as many other people understand that throughout life, we are constantly going to be setting, striving for, and achieving goals everyday. They may be as simple as waking up on time, or as difficult as becoming the next president of the United States. While working towards any objective, you will receive help, hindrance, and develop different game plans for individual situations. A great example of goal persuitment is shown in Homer’s astonishing story: The Odyssey. This is a jaw-dropping tale of an ordinary soldier named Odysseus, who faces many challenges while attempting to reach his goal of returning home after victory in the Trojan war. In this story, war hero Odysseus wants to return home to Ithaca in order to be reconnected to, and live a happy life with his family. We both get distracted, need help sometimes, and have to find unique ways to get out of sticky situations which makes our paths to success very similar. These three parts of a journey mentioned in my essay really point out that not all paths to success are easy. There will be hardships, there will be times where heavy thinking is needed, and there will be times in which it is okay to ask for and receive help. Life is not meant to be lived alone, and with the help and hindrance of others, we are sure to learn a lot about the world, and life itself.
