“I don’t need proof, I have faith.” This quote from the movie Simon Birch speaks a lot to one of the main characters. Simon Birch is a twelve year old boy who is a little different, in physical and faith aspects. Simon has a physical disability that has caused him to be about half the size of other kids his age. Even though he is small in stature, Simon has more faith than 100 mustard seeds. Believing in God’s plan for him and helping people along the way Simon Birch encounters many examples of friendship throughout the movie. Three examples of friendship found in the movie Simon Birch are between Ben and Joe, the turtle-dove and Simon, and finally between Simon and Margery. The first example of friendship is found between Ben and Joe. Joe …show more content…
The little turtle-dove was small for his age, and his friends didn’t include him. He was scared to go on the retreat because he didn’t want the others to pick on him, but then Simon came along. Simon first meets the turtle-dove at the Christmas play, and encourages him to not let the others get under his skin because he is small. He then promises the turtle-dove that he will be at the retreat and make sure they include him. Sadly, Simon isn’t allowed to go on the retreat, but when he showed up later the excited boy exclaimed, “You came!” These instances changed Simon into more of a leader which helped in the end. In the scene where the bus crashed into the water, Simon took leadership and risked his life to save the others. Simon got this leadership from his friendship with the …show more content…
cute like a baby turtle.” Twelve year old Simon has a crush on Margery, but thinks there is no possible way she could like him. She always shows him sympathy and looks at him like a little brother, but their relationship grows into something even more. The Christmas play shows the start of this new relationship. Simon is dumbfounded by Margery’s beauty and has a silly look on his face which makes Margery ask him if he is ok, showing the sisterly sympathy. Simon can not take it anymore and pulls Margery into the cradle causing absolute chaos. After this incident Margery looks at Simon differently. When Simon is hospitalized, after saving the children from the bus, Margery visits him, and professes her love just before he dies. This relationship gave Margery the power to see people for who they are on the inside and not just on the
The ideas presented in the story The Scarlet Ibis and the movie Simon Birch lead to an intrigued way of thinking. Simon Birch and Doodle having disabilities is a major relevance to both stories, since Simon and Doodle have disabilities, one can easily see how their characters are related, but also how they differ in thought, word, and deed. Also, symbolism plays a major role in The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch, by representing future events. Another idea present in both stories is that both Simon and Doodle are seen as miracles from God, but in their own ways.
Simon is the only boy who stands up and
Simon was the epitome of innocence, because he never wanted to hurt anyone. He also tried to be on everyone’s side and looked out for the rest of the group. He believed that everyone had the best intentions, and was intuitive to the other’s emotions. For example, after Piggy confronted Ralph, Ralph was embarrassed, so Simon tried to help by, “stroking Ralph’s arm shyly”(Golding 25). He wanted to let Ralph know that he thought he made the right choice and was willing to support him.
What is a friend? The technical definition is a person who one knows and with who one has a bond of mutual affection. In my personal opinion, a friend is someone that will always have your back, someone who can laugh with you, maybe even someone who shares the same interests as you. Friends are very important to everyone because when life gets rough you need a friend that will help you through your struggling times. Many people have many friends.
Friendship Friendship is a hard thing to find, but what can be even more difficult is finding someone who you can share a genuine friendship unconditionally. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is very heartbreaking and grievous novel that has many devastating aspects. Throughout the story, Lennie and George portray the many accurate qualities of true friendship. I have had one friendship in my life that I can more than confidently say was authentic. This friend shows her loyalty, honesty, and selflessness constantly, similar to George and Lennie.
One can interpret his actions and character in the play to be a representation of the existential crisis that many individuals go through in their lives. Simon’s addiction and boldness to constantly drag around town shows how Simon gave up on the meaning life holds and the reason for his
Simon wants to find his destiny “ I think God made me the way I am for a reason.” ~ Simon Birch. Later in the story Simon finds his destiny,Saving kids from a sinking school bus which had crashed into a freezing cold lake. Simon had an ability to talk to kids and have them listen with no distractions because of his small stature.
Although the boys are stuck on the island for weeks and begin to turn to savagery, one boy, Simon, makes an observation that no one else makes yet. Simon, who is an intuitive and sensitive individual eventually recognizes the darkness that hides within the human heart. When the boys argue about there being a beast on the island, Simon proposes the idea to the group that “maybe it’s only us that we’re afraid of” (Golding 195). Simon tries to suggest that the beast may be something within the boys themselves but to the boys, it’s just easier to fear the beast than to face the reality that they are actually afraid of each other. Towards the end of the novel when Simon and Piggy face death, and Jack’s savage group is about to kill Ralph, a naval officer shows up at the same time Ralph was about to give up and let himself die.
I think Turtle should be divorced from her family because they do not care about her. Also Turtle’s parents mostly care about Angela. It should be Turtle’s consent to live alone it is not her parents decision. Here is some details why Turtle should divorce from her parents, Grace really only cares about her other child Angela, Grace calls her a mistake, Jake doesn’t really care when Grace is really rude to Turtle, and last but not least Grace wants Turtle to be perfect but no one‘s perfect. Those were some of the reasons why Turtle should be divorced from her parents there are many more.
This is indicating that Simon is weak from the very beginning and is a sign that he will be one of the first to fall, which he is with his death in chapter 9. Also, in chapter 3, Ralph, Simon, and Jack are talking about the condition of the island. Simon recommends making shelters to calm the little ones at night. Ralph and Piggy have a conversation, and when they return Simon is gone, even though in the past he had always been around. Simon was the voice of reason on the island, and this foreshadows his death because one minute he is there, and then he is absent, along with his logic and helpfulness, just like in his death; he is alive and well, and then he has a seizure and is killed, and all of the reason he possesses is
In the movie Simon Birch, we learn many aspects from the main character relating to our SPIES unit. The Main character Simon Birch was born the smallest baby of Grapeville in recorded history. When he was born, the doctors believed Simon would only be alive for days or a weeks at maximum, because of a undersized heart. Mr and Mrs. Birch didn’t care for Simon and carried on in their normal daily lives. Believing their son would pass away.
Simon also tried to keep the peace between all of the boys by assuring them that everything is ok, and that there is nothing to be afraid of. “I just think you’ll get back all right.” (111). Simon was vigilant, and calming to the others. This shows true leadership, and that civilization is still present so long as he’s around.

The worst pain in the world is the betrayal of a friend. This can be said about two boys raised in Kabul. Despite coming from different social standings, portraying strikingly different characteristics, and leading contrasting lives, the novel, “The Kite Runner,” written by Khaled Hosseini describes how the relationship between Hassan and Amir still remained unbreakable. Friendship is a strong bond that can occur between seemingly similar individuals or people who contrast each others personalities.
