Coexistence of Good and Evil Have you ever seen the coexistence of good and evil? In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout the main character encounters good and evil in many chapters throughout the book. In this essay i will explain when, where and how scout encounters theses goods and evils. The first paragraph you will read about the good. Next, in the second paragraph you will read about the evil. Finally, in the third paragraph you will read about how scout thinks things are good/evil but she finds out are really evil/good. We start with when, where and how she encounters good. In the first few chapters is when you really see scout meeting new good people/things. One of the people she meets is Jem and Dill. Jem and Dill both soon becomes Scouts' best friends. An example of their good and innocence is in chapter two when they first meet, they are in first grade and do not know much about evil or bad things in the world and have not seen evil yet. Another person who is good in her life is Atticus (her father.) An example of him being good is in chapter 17 when Scout hears about him defending a black man in court, accused of raping a white girl. Most of the chapters in the book Scout encounters some form of evil, whether it is in chapter 21 when Tom Robinson (the black man) was announced guilty and sent off the jail, or in chapter 23 when Tom is sentenced to the electric chair. Finally in chapter 24 Tom tries to escape prison and is shot 17 times and dies. In all of these examples Scout saw good and evil things come out. But there was more evil than good.
